Internet connections and cafes in Central Asia
Just a quick one.... How often will we be able to get to an internet cafe or pick up a wireless connection whilst in Central asia, i guess it varies country to country, so whats your experience???..

It does vary from country to country. In the capital cities and larger/touristy places there are generally a few internet cafes. I don't know about wireless, but i imagine you would struggle finding a hotspot.
Places like Bishkek and Almaty will have the best facilities, Turkmenistan the worst. In Ashgabat there was only one place with one computer for public internet access. This place was a five star hotel and charged exhorbitant rates. I wouldn't be surprised if my outgoing emails were scrutinised personally by Turkmenbashi. Sean |
