I'd take an MP3 player, then you're have stacks and can have iPod discos on the road.

Led Zeppelin and Sigur Ros.

PDA - with maps, ebooks and MP3s - all on digi storage cards. Much smaller than CDs, more robust too.

Total escape form where you are - read ebook with ear phones playing music.

Also have some poetry, talking books.

Personally I find absorbing the place I'm at enough to keep myself entertained. However after some 6 months a touch of 'home' is desired. Can usually get that by finding a gum tree somewhere and scrunching up some leaves.

i'd take most of the stereophonics early stuff, thats me though

one thing i'd say from personal experience is if you get an mp3 player, back up what you can onto cd/dvd as ive recently had my mp3 break and i cant access it to get the music from my one to my new one. so ive been buying music which hurts the budget.

I don't have a music player for riding; however, my other vehicles I have a handful of 50s',80s', to 06s' and plenty of 60s' and 70s' tunes. Motown, classic rock, blues etal.:) <*))))>{

Whatever way you choose to bring your music (MP3 for me)bring 2 other things with you;1-recharchable batteries,with charger and 2 - mini speakers, great if you want to listen in the tent/room,you dont want to wear headphones too long either - not good for the hearing old chap.
As for content - I bring a mix because my moods are going change from day to day.Sometimes R+B, sometimes rock.Sometimes trance,sometimes 70's.
Just depends on the mood........man(!)

I found a MP3 player that works off of compact flash cards. I have several CF cars with different kinds of music, so I can change the mood. The player has a small built-in speaker, so it's adequate without earbuds or headphones.

When riding, I run the music into my helmet speakers (usually via the Chatterbox unit). I don't like earplug speakers, so the in-helmet speakers are both comfortable and they allow for more ambient sounds to be heard.

The MP3 player has no moving parts, so vibes don't hurt it. Runs on AA batteries.

I used to have a CD player on the Valkyrie, and it played MP3 disks. The CF player has now replaced that. I take the CF player on the KLR too, and it works fine. Not very weather resistent, though, so it usually goes in the map pouch of the tankbag.

yup, stereophonics, although foo fighters does it for me as well!
