Over 250cc motorcycle into Iran
Hi Overlanders,
I'd like to borrow your wisdom. I'm going to start my world journey from UAE this July. (Because of the recent situation, I couldn't ship my bike to Vladivostok or North America from Japan. The only port where I could schedule and ship my bike was Dubai....) I'm going to enter Oman after UAE, and go up to the Arabian Peninsula. If I have an entry stamp of Israel, there are many countries* I can't enter, so it might be reasonable to go east after Iraq. But I heard*that we can't enter Iran with motorcycles over 250cc from 2019.Unfortunately, my partner is Tenere700.Does anyone know the travel agent who allows us to enter Iran with a big bike for only 7 days? Best Regards Ryuhei from Japan |
Hi Ryuhei
THe rule on bikes over 250 cc in Iran was mostly hearsay (people talking about nothing). It was very briefly enforced, I believe, a few years ago, but there is now no restriction. So no problem for your bike. Best wishes EO |
Dear EO
Really?? That's greatfully good news for me. I'm appreciate for your imformation. Ryuhei |
You will need a carnet de passage to travel through Iran tho.

Dear frameworkSpecialist and EO
I've prepared the Carnet. So, it is no problem. But I think my carnet doesn't list Iran as a country where I'm going to get my moto in. In Japan, JAF(=Japanese association of the carnet) doesn't permit me to get my motorcycle into a country that isn't listed on my carnet. But I'm suspicious about that. Is it internationally ruled??
