plastic jerry cans
hello fellow travellers,
we have a jerry can (10 lt. plastic) which was used for petrol, now we want to use it for water. any idea how to get rid of the petrol smell ? mika from south africa ------------------ |
Never tried it myself, but locals that use these oil containers told me:
poor in boiling water and soap, and shake, and then poor in sand and shake, and poor in water and shake, ... . and after a while the tast will be gone. Success, Rob |
Most plastics are somewhat permeable. They soak up a certain amount of what is stored in them. Hydrocarbon fuels can poison you... of course lack of water can kill you also. As a survivalist living in the wilds of Montana USA we store lots of stuff in containers. We store lots of water but never in anything that has had any chemical whatsoever in it. My advice is trade your gas container for a water container. Happy journeys.
