So what's the cost of fuel then????
One of the difficult part of planning for me is to work out a budget for the whole trip:confused1: . For us, our biggest expense would be cost of fuel.
How about we use this thread to post current fuel prices(diesel or petrol) for the country you are in or travelling through. I'm sure other people would be interested in current prices as well, or just some indication of what to expect. Personally, we are only travelling mid next year from Oz to London in a 4wd going via Eastern Russia, Mongolia and the Stans. Happy travelling:scooter: Pumbaa |

So, for Japan (and it varies of course depending on where you are) but presently I am paying here on Shikoku for regular 130 Japanese Yen for "Super" 140 Japanese Yen. :thumbdown: |
UK - 90p (ish) a litre
In the UK you can expect to pay 90p (£0.90) a litre. It was up to a £1 a litre a few months back, but hasn't been much lower for the last couple of years. Thats for both petrol and derv. Diesel being slightly more expensive.
There is a little local variation in the remote areas I believe, and the cheapest places to buy it appears to be in the supermarkets. Budget day today, so that could all change :) |

At present in New Zealand NZ$1.53 per litre 91RON (0.52 Euro) , NZ$1.61 95RON. Diesel is about $0.98 so we are all waiting for those diesel bikes to arrive here!

From doing a bit of research, it looks like fuel is about 10 Rouble/liter in Russia. Maybe someone can confirm this??

So after some more research re fuel prices, I stumbled accross this document. It relates to 2004/5 so a bit out of date, but a good indicator for the fuel prices for different countries anyway.

total cost for fuel!
We did 60K in Africa (2005/2006) through 30 countries so the average price will be representative for other long trips in Africa. From our total cost, Euro 22.000,-, for 1 year, 2 persons, 1 LC HZJ75 (avg 1lt/6.5km) everything included, like visa, maintenance, park fees, unforseen, everything except preparations, we have spent exactly Euro 10.000,- on fuel! So count 50% of your budget for fuel on a 4x4 Africa overland trip, unless your car is much more fuel efficient!

Unleaded 98 Super 1.03 Euro Litre Diesel Standard 0.95 Euro Litre Diesel Super 1.10 Euro Litre The good think about here is prices CAN and have gone DOWN as well as UP! |

Unleaded approx 92 Pence a litre in town
Unleaded approx 98 Pence a litre on the motorway Optimax/Super approx 99 pence a litre in town Optimax/Super approx 110 pence a litre on the motorway Diesel approx 94 Pence a litre in town Diesel approx 99 Pence a litre on the motorway If possible never buy fuel on a motorway in the UK! Most exit ramps will have a fuel staion with 1 mile, usually a lot less. These prices are based on Shell stations in Berkshire, but does vary from town to town. If you plan to visit any islands off the UK, including Isle of Wight, Isle of Man or any of the Scottish islands, fill up before you get on the boat as the islands make motorways look cheap!:eek3: |

The Govt decided to increase price of gas by a shocking 40%

I think it would be wise to have all data in a central place. Good and simply entry of data, and easy to search. I think posting prices here in this thread is not easy to read, and very difficult to find you country... So I found this mentioned before on the HUBB, if I'm not mistaken. A very handy site. Although it would be better in US$, or in local currency I think... the gasoline prises in the world list now start filling the database... See you on the road in South America... |
