T-Shirt Sizes
For those of us who want to purchase a t-shirt. What are the t-shirt sizes in? American or European sizes? If European where can I find a conversion chart?

Having more t-shirts than is healthy, I'd say the system of sizing is.... whatever the manufacturer wants it to be.
Best to try on, or at least wrap it round the front under the armpits. Or guess if buying on the internet. |

All the T shirts I have just say S, M, L etc on the label. If they had a number I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to get.
Even with S,M,L sizing I usually have to get one size bigger than seems logical - I ought to be a medium but a wash or two down the road they're usually too small. Either that or I'm eating too many pies. :rofl: |
Normal sizings for T shirts are roughly as follows.
S= 36/38inch chest, Euro size= 46/48cms M= 38/40 = 48/50cms L= 40/42 = 50/52cms XL= 42/44 = 52/54 XXL= 44/46 = 54/56 etc. Some manufs vary slightly, but this is the general norm. ( I used to own a logo embroidery factory). The size L HuBB T shirt fits my 42 chest perfectly. If you like a loose fit buy one size up |
I suppose I ought to have used a tape measure at some point in the past to work out what size is correct for me but in my simple world I kind of expected that the M size for example would refer to someone who was an average size - i.e. in the middle of the population size range. Based on Pongo's chart an average size person round here would probably need to buy an XL. :rolleyes2:
It seems to run contrary to the recent High St trend of "adjusting" label sizes to flatter purchasers into believing they're thinner than they thought they were. :rofl: |
I don't think there is any standard and S M L can vary sometimes depending on the size of the people where they are made or to be sold. I have a medium t-shirt made and bought in Thailand for the local market and it is small by European standards, the only way to be sure is to try it on.
