Travel from India through Burma to Thailand
Is it possible to ride from India to Thailand through Burma
If any one can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated PS I am new to HU and this is my first post as you can probably tell. Cheers Sean |
Yes its possible but both Myanmar and Thailand requires mandatory permits, included some very complicated paperwork for Thailand, and guides and as you can probably understand that is both very expensive and not very conveniant.
You will also need to bring the bike out of Thailand again. |
On an Indian bike???

Hi Sean,
Did you have any success with your trip? We're looking to do something similar. Heard leaving India with bike is impossible though. cheers Fred |
Sorry, have to disagree with Snakeboy: Thailand is relatively easy, I have done it several times.
With the unrest in Rakhine State, Western Burma I think it will be a few years yet before such a crossing becomes less than almost impossible. |

If youre coming from Myanmar and cross into Thailand at Mae Sot I dont think theres any way around the new laws and regulations in Thailand about mandatory permits and guides and heaps of paperwork to the permits btw. If youre coming from Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia theres still reports that travellers have been able to enter Thailand without permits and guides at some ofthe smaller border crossings. I dont know how long that would last though. But coming i to Thailand at Mae Sot from Myanmar I doubt very much you will be let into Thailand without permits/guides. |
Can we please have some links to sources, especially the new regulations?
