Urgent help required with Datatool alarm system
I have a Datatool S4 alarm/immobilizer on my Suzuki DL650. It has died and shut down my EMS. More to the point, I believe the internal battery has died. Can anybody tell me how to disconnect the unit from my EMS? Or how to replace the battery. A wiring diagram would be helpful. :helpsmilie:
I have been waiting for the Datatool people to answer my emails for over a week with nothing happening. :nono: A private email would be best for this information for security purposes. I will report on contacts from Datatool so that you all know how good/bad a company they are in this situation. I broke down on the road between Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, Chile. Three days to get it to PN no contact from them. No answer from my first email to them. Then contact via their web site, no answer. Further emails and website contacts, no answer. Do they still exist as a company? |

Sorry to here of your problems. I had a datatool got tits up on me while in France last year. I think my problem was RFI ( radio frequency interference) The only option I had at the time was to completely remove it. I'm am quite handy with wiring type stuff so was able to trace the wires and sort out which ones were cut and spliced etc. Sadly all my wires on the datatool were black ! so no idea what was what. My guess is the battery is " dealer service item" ?? dunno for sure.
Is it possible you have a source of RFI phone mast/tv / radio transmitter? Look around for antennas even small ones close by. If there is try moving away from it. Might be that? Personally I would remove or have it removed. I will never have one on any of my bikes again. Great when they a working fine. |

Is the main alarm unit on a ten core cable? If it is, you need open the insulation and follow the wires back into the bikes loom. Alarm fitters are lazy ***s so hopefully yours is accessible and all jointed in the same place. If there are ten wires they make 5 pairs (usually unlabelled). Each bike wire is cut, goes up into the devils-electronic-fagpacket-from-hell and comes back down into the loom. Cut out the pair of alarm wires and re-connect the pair and you have nice uninterupted power back to the engine ECU.
If you have the bikes wiring diagram and nice coloured wire you may get moving with just one pair cut out, the others are only so the electronic **** has power, can flash the indicators, work the horn and so on. Once removed I'd throw the POS into the deepest hole you can find, although I think I still have mine ready to shove somewhere if I ever meet a company representative. Datafool I believe are still pedaling their non-waterproof battery flatening devices. They won't respond to your mail, they'll claim you are a possible bike thief. Good Luck Andy |
on a 2004 schematic updated may 2005 release F it shows only one wire directly from ignition to ECM it is shown orange /red. See if any datatool wires are on this one??

I've a Datatool on a 14-year-old bike, still works OK. But last year I decided to remove it - it flattens the battery so quickly if nothing else.
Had a load of fuss over the phone to their UK office. One fellow was quite rude, but was new I think and determined not to reveal the company secrets. Don't remember how, but I found a civilised person, much more mature-sounding, who was able to give me the full instructions over the phone. Being a 15-year-old device the instructions were quite simple - but - I've still not got round to removing it! The first thing I did when I got my GS was to remove the ancient Meta immobiliser. It's quite easy if you are patient. No need for a wiring diagram. Just trace all the wires to where they connect to the loom. If they are tapped in, just remove and reseal the insulation. If the loom has been cut, remove the alarm/immob wires and join the originals, where the colours will be a clue to what joins to what. The whole job took probably two hours including dismantling (tank and air intake off), soldering and taping up with self-amalgamating tape. Best upgrade to the bike that I did.
