warning triangles for Spain
Hi
I have heard that camper vans now need to sport warning triangles for Spain, is this so and if so what size etc? Thanks |
I carry two tabards and two triangles in my car for Spain and have just bought the same for our camper van.
It's a requirement that the equipment has to be able to be reached from inside the vehicle, so you can't pack it at the bottom of a pile of stuff. |
It's obligatory equipment also if you are travelling across France to get to Spain. As Tim says, your yellow gilet ( obligatory for the driver within reach to be put on before exiting a vehicle broken down on the side of the road) and one for each passenger . In France the reflective triangle also within reach is to be placed at least 30 metres from the rear of the broken down vehicle. Spain requires 2 triangles in the emergency kit ( one placed next to vehicle and the other about 75/100metres back) and 1 gilet for every person that gets out of the vehicle. ( Euro Law with country variations been in existance since 2008).

Makes good sense really. Far better than this country (UK) where people amble around on the hard shoulder wearing nice dark clothing, then shout at cars that are too close! :rolleyes2:
|
A few years back when I got a puncture (car) on the M4 near just out of London I dutifully placed my warning triangle 50/70m back, put on my reflective vest and set about changing the wheel.
A few minutes later one of the "traffic womble" (Top Gear description) cars pulled up behind and proceeded to bollock me for "resembling a motorway worker" in the vest and putting the triangle out because "it might blow into the carriageway" (it was weighted down with my toolkit). They insisted I remove the vest and took the triangle down. Then they just drove off. Next time it'll be dark clothing and swearing at the cars. |
ROTFLMAO

also if relevant, Spain and Italy require big square striped reflectors on the rear if you have a bike rack and bikes
