What currency to use
Ok, working on my RTW plan and it just occurred to me that borders and countries are constantly being crossed. So how do you handle currency? For example is it all peso for South America as I will probably be entering Mexico and moving down through south America. Do you use U.S. Same question goes for other parts of the world.

Find an ATM or bank as soon as you cross the border and withdraw 2-3 days cash. Then see how long it lasts and try to gauge your withdrawals so you don't end up with any more than you'll need before you cross the next border. Before you cross out, put your remaining cash into 'real goods' : fill your gas tank, buy food and water, oil, whatever- so you don't lose too much value trading in currency at the bank in the next country.
I keep $USA or EUROS in reserve for emergencies. .........shu |
I would think carrying an ATM and a credit card (securely) might be best. These days you can do an ATM withdrawal from almost anywhere in the world and get the local currency. Make sure you talk with the card issuers before you go to let them know you are travelling overseas, otherwise they might see 'suspicious' foreign purchases and think your card has been stolen.
