One underappreciated thing is regionally roaming SIM cards... for my upcoming trip that starts in Thailand, I got a DTAC tourist eSIM - and there is an add-on package I can buy for it where it does data roaming in 27 Asian countries for two weeks for a very reasonable fee! No need to get a new SIM card in absolutely every country.
