2017: North, Central & South America
I am planning a ride from Vancouver, BC, south, through the western US, into Mexico, Central America and down through South America, leaving Vancouver sometime in mid 2017 and I'm looking for riding partners.
I have also considered Europe and Asia in 2017 (ie: Eastern Europe through the Stan's, Mongolia and Russia to Magadan and the Road of Bones ) so could be convinced to do that instead. I'm not partial to either, just partial to a RTW type trip in 2017. I'm available for a 6-10 month trip. I will have a new KTM 690 for the trip, buying and outfitting this year (2016) and doing some Western Canadian and US trips (ie; BDR's in WA, OR, ID, UT, AZ, MN, WY) in the summer of 2016 in preparation for the 2017 trip. Message me if any of this looks appealing to you and you want to join me. Ideally, I'll be doing a lot of off-road type riding whenever I can, hence the 690. I'm an off-road rider at heart, the more difficult the better, so if you're on a big Adv bike, this wouldn't be the best match for me. Cheers! Rob |

Hi Rod,
I'm planning a RTW trip in early 2017 as well! My only obstacle right now is that I don't have a partner. If you're willing to go RTW instead of south, please, let's connect! |
Hello
I - 25 years old - am planning a RTW trip in 2017 as well. I have time for about 6-9 months. The plan I have in mind is from Europe through Kasachstan, Mongolia, Russia to Magadan. From there take a plane (with the bike) to Alaska. Then continue the trip through Canada and the US to the east coast. I've got a R1200GS Adv and like being offroad very much. There is naturally more possible on a smaller bike but since I'm looking forward to a RTW trip, there must be a good balance between harder trails and dirt roads. Cheers Janosch |
Hi Pawel;
Not having a partner is not an obstacle but more like an opportunity! Come and go as you please :). I don't have partner and it won't stop me from leaving. My plan is to depart Vancouver, BC in late August, early September, and travel south through the US to Mexico, and then continue down through CA to SA and then return much if not all the way on the bike as well. I had thought about Europe and Asia and Russia, but prefer the NA/CA/SA route. Let's keep in touch and see where it goes! I'll send you me email address in a private email. Rob Quote:

Hi Madelaine;
Thanks for the message!! I just checked out your website and watched the bit on Jimmy Fallon with Ewan, very cool. You're a real celebrity now too :) I'd have to say the Ewan's "Long Way Around" was my first real inspiration to do something similar. As I wrote in my message, I am leaning towards the NA/CA/SA route, departing in August-ish 2017. Let's keep in touch in case we can find some common ground. I'll send a private message with my email address, Cheers, Rob Quote:

heading CA/SA...
Gday Rob, I'm from NZ (riding capital of the world :thumbup1:)
I have been planning a similar trip that we might be able to link up for some part. Also, how you ride is important, and I also prefer off-road. That said, if you need to make up some ground, then there will be tarmac happening to get to the good off road. Being totally honest, I see my trip being about 70/30, but I'm open to change. I'm riding this year July/August starting from California and heading up the Continental Divide to Banff and then back south via the coast and visiting friends. I wanted to continue on to Baja (got a mate at the bottom), but it's crazy hot there in August so I decided to pause. I'll return and ride Baja, then ferry to Mexico and onwards south to Ushuaia. I don't have forever though, probably only 3-4months due to family and other life passions. Part of me was considering to return in either Nov or Feb and ride Baja, then back to LA and ship me and bike to Venezuela. I'd like to ride CA, but will factor in cost/border hassles/darian gap shipping VS ship and flight from LA to Venezuela. The bike is a BMW g650x challenge, it's my 2nd one, and fully capable for anything with a good setup. bier |

que tal? How's your spanish? I am very flexible and will re-start from the LA/San Diego area. I'm riding the Rockies from NM to Banff, and then into BC this summer. I'll take a break and then come back for better weather to continue heading south. I am still unsure to ship bike and fly to Bogota or ride thru Central America with hassles/borders/costs/visas/Stahlratte fee 1000usd. What is your plan? When do you think is the best weather window? |

Madeleine
Just checked out your web page looks like you have a great route, I am just starting to plan my route for South America. I am located in central Kansas and it looks like you are passing right through my neck of the woods. If you need a service stop (I own a well equipped shop) or a place to park for the night let me know. |
How is your ride going? Sorry so late a reply!

Hope to see you on the road and ride safe :) |
SO WHO IS STILL PLANNING AN EARLY 2017 TRIP TO S/AMERICA?
I'm certain that mid Feb I should be on my way to Colombia to head south. I actually have a partner who doesn't ride with me, so my time is limited to several months (she's very understanding) instead of half a year or a year. SO I'm thinking due to weather to ride from Colombia to Ushuaia and back north likely to Santiago or BsAr in 3months. Any takers?? I ride off road, and will seek it out, especially if I have a capable riding buddy on a capable light-midweight bike like my xchallenge |
