4 motnhs in Europe winter/spring 2015
Hello :)
I've managed to steal 4 months of freedom from work this coming winter. Unfortunately, I'm forced to take those in winter/spring. So that leaves me with february to may (might be able to do march to june). My itinerary (I'm trying to follow good weather), looks like this at the moment: - South of Spain (Andalusia), where I will buy the bike - Morroco - Portugal - France, med coast - Italy - ferry to Greece - (maybe push to Turkey if time permits) - return through Croatia - the Alps - the Pyrenees - Finish in Spain to sell my steed. For the moment I was looking at buying a road bike, so all tarmac. Cheap hotels and hostels dormitories, Eat in grocery stores, but also the occasional local delicacies in pub/restaurant. The focus of the trip is seeing the land, the cities and the attractions. Going to bed early and hitting the road early, with the occasional fiesta. This is a rough plan nothing is set in stones, I'm open to suggestion. I speak french, english and good enough spanish. Oh and I'm 36 year old, if that's of any importance to you. Thank you for reading. - Guillaume |
Hello old friend, no KLR this time around. I rented a bike out of Prauge years ago, it wasn't too bad of a price, and not that far out of the way for you, V-strom 650, perfect for the trip. I will try to find the details.
Neal, aka the other green machine bier btw, the road from Greece up through Croatia is heaven. |
Hehe nice to hear from you Neal my friend.
No KLR this time, these mean beasts don't roam the lands of Europe ;) Can't wait to see that Croatian coast now!! |
Hi, just picked up on this thread, and I wish you a happy trip. Now i'm potentially going to put a downer on you ( maybe) unless you check this out thoroughly, especailly if you are just thinking of turning up and buying a bike. It's no longer that simple in Europe.
European legislation states that only residents of European countries, or those with a permanent address ( ie a holiday home) , can buy and register vehicles in that country. This is because a residential address must be given to register the vehicle. Without registration in your name you can't get Insurance. There are people who can arrange purchase , registration ,insurance and buy back, but you have to get this sorted out well in advance, and there aren't many who are willing to do this. It may be that you know this already and got it all sorted, in which case an apology, but I have seen non EU residents turn up in France for a few months touring in Europe, expecting to buy a bike and re sell it , to find that they either have to give up, or hire, or at worst have lost a lot of money having bought a bike, because they have been unable to register and get insurance. Good luck anyway. |
Thank you very much for the "downer" ;)
I was not aware of this change. All the information I gathered was hinting that it was very possible and not so complicated. So if I understand you correctly, the difficulty lies in not having a permanent adress. I will check if using someones adress as a permanent adress could be a solution. Otherwise I will look at a plan B. Motofeirme is probably the easiest way to do it, but Ireland in february... I foresee cold and wet riding days... :freezing: |
