Africa bound by 2019
Hello, my plan is to do Africa by motorcycle, probably starting on 2019 and I'd like to travel about 12 months, plus or minus a few. I've always dreamed, consciously or not, of visiting tribes, the savana, the serengeti, the tropical jungles of Congo, the sahara, the tree of Tenere, etc.
I am getting a little older (late 40's) so the time is ripe for this travel plan to take shape and formwhile I still have money, courage and hunger for adventure. I am a school teacher but two months worth of travel time in the summer is not long enough so I'll be quitting my job and pursuing this personal project...or bust! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...s/biggrin2.gif My rough draft plan is to purchase a motorcycle in Spain (I live in the U.S.), then cross it over into Morocco and go from there. I am looking for travel companion(s) who are interested in this adventure, even if you want to travel for more, or less, time. Anyone interested please contact me and lets share info. If anyone has tips and advice regarding Africa travel, I would appreciate your feedback inmensely!!! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...es/scooter.gif thank you keko |
Africa 2019
Sounds like a great adventure. Tempted to join you. I used to drive overland trucks in Africa (east and southern) but would be great to do on motorcyle. Are you decided on a route yet, type of motorcycle etc. I am thinking a reasonably light motorcycle would be best that can be thrown in the back of a truck. For example I am pretty sure they will not let you ride a motorcycle through the Serengetti (unfortunately) so might need to hitch a lift. When in 2019 were you thinking of setting out? Paul.

did you use to drive on africa? moving freight ? how long ago?
I'd like to take off sometime before or after the summer of 2019, i will have to buy a motorcycle in spain which i heard can take sometime to do the paperwork. plans are still shady and unclear but the unwavering interest is definitely there. im thinking a small to medium size motorcycle (250 or 500 cc), something good for off road. where are you from? let me know what you think, etc. keko |
I'm thinking of doing a similar trip in 2019. Going to Air Canada my bike to LHR and go from there. Would love to ride with others in this trip through western Africa.

OP, I'm going to suggest that if you've not already done so, you start reading existing forum posts about African travel and routes. Asking whether "anyone has tips and advice regarding Africa travel" is so vague that it's unlikely to attract useful information. Best to do the background research on your own, then ask specific questions.
Another approach is to read a few of the many books on the subject. Google (and perhaps Amazon) is your friend. Hope that's helpful. Mark PS: The tree is defunct, and the Tenere is off-limits anyway in the absence of a serious death wish. |
