Africa, Summer 2019

Tentatively putting together a plan. Don't know if the plan will come to fruition, but if I don't start thinking about it, it won't.

I want to do Kenya or Tanzania, or both. I want to do Zambia. Anything else is a bonus. Victoria Falls and getting out to the Skeleton Coast in Namibia would be cool. I've heard Etosha is worth a visit too.

Thinking of shipping UK to Nairobi or Dar es Salaam, then ride down to Cape Town to ship home. Big picture looks like 150 miles a day for four weeks through August. Don't know if that mileage is reasonable in Africa. 175 miles a day with a rest-day per week. Several of the tour companies like GlobeBuster do this route. They take five weeks. I can't afford that time, nor their prices.

Plan B would be to return to Nairobi or Dar es Salaam, and ship back from port of entry. Seems a wasted opportunity though.

I'll be just the wrong side of 60 by then, riding an F800GS. Post-up if you have knowledge of this route that would help with planning, or if you're interested in joining me.

Now two of us planning. Second bike is a tricked-out G650 X-Country, ridden by my riding buddy to Iceland, Mongolia and Turkey over recent years. Didn’t think he fancied the trip but it seems he does. He drops the average age by nine years. :cool4:

Africa it is

Second try....I lost my first reply to you before i was able to send it!

Hello! I'm Keko, I am very interested to set foot in Africa no later than 2019.
I'm new at motorcycle travel, I'm new at motorcycling, period! lol
so far, my traveling has been on bus and car but I sure wanna try this new way of locomotion!
I live in the U.S. work as a teacher, and Africa has been a dream since childhood and doing by motorcycle sound great because that gives me total autonomy and freedom.
My plans involve perhaps buying a motorcycle in Spain or thereabouts and then importing it to Africa (Morocco).
I have no real preference as to the countries that I'd like to visit, but I do want to visit as many as I can! Timewise, for me is about one year of African freedom, plus or minus, a few months.
I hope to hear from you, or you guys. Let me know what you think, etc.

If you're entering Africa from Morocco, it's unlikely we'd be able to meet up before Namibia. I suspect you need to do a lot of research.

Is this one of those holidays where you do all the planning Paul and I just pitch up and ride ;) You're becoming an expert after our last 4 trips. It's in the calendar!

Africa 2019

Hi Wildman, We are a retired couple from Australia and planning a trip down the east of Africa mid 2019 possibly from Egypt to South Africa on a Honda AT. We are currently in Italy having ridden there from Australia which we have done twice now. We will again be based in Italy mid 2019. We are somewhat flexible and would be interested in riding with others through Africa otherwise we will go alone. Even sharing information would be helpful such as freighting the bike to Egypt, planned route, Carnet etc. Cheers David.

Hey David

PM me your email address and we'll loop you in with the planning.

Best

Paul
