Alaska - May/June 2015
I'll be riding up from Utah to Alaska solo, on a 250. I expect to be making Alaska in May or early June. My objective is to visit the Magic Bus near Healy.
It would be great to know of any others riding in similar areas at the same time. |
I will be heading in that general direction around about that sort of time.
Hoping to enter Canada early May head up to Alaska then back down through USA to Mexico I will keep an eye on here and maybe meet up |
That's great buddy! I'll post again sooner the time to stir up further interest great to hear I wont be totally solo! :D

Dress warm and give a shout if you pass through montana. The parks here might still be closed from snow but you are on a adventure?
|
Neil, just curious, what 250 will you be on? I have a NX250 and I was half considering riding it north. I would be interested to hear your take on a 250 for that trip.

Yes, mine is a 1988. It had 2000 miles when I got it about a year ago and I've been adventurizing it.

Alaska on a 250 / The Magic Bus
During the summer of 2012 I travelled in the Yukon and Alaska on a 250 and posted about that experience in the "Which Bike"forum. Many people commented and you can find the thread under the title "Kawasaki KLX250s as a D/S Tourer - My Report". You may find it useful, in particular the comments about fuel capacity given the long distances involved.
Re your intention to visit the Magic Bus, I enjoyed reading "Into the Wild" (Krakauer's best book I think and a fine film) enough to recently pick up "The Wild Truth" by Carine McCandless, Chris McCandless' sister. Although not remotely comparable to the Krakauer book as a literary work, anyone interested in the poignant story which ended so sadly at the bus will find her history of the McCandless family very interesting in terms of what may have motivated her brother to leave everything behind and hit the road in the most complete way. Good luck with the prep. Norm |
