I have driven both countries. Russia isn't perfect when it comes to other drivers on the road. But there aren't drunk people everywhere, and we also never got any police corruption (though they checked us 4 times or so)
For police corruption, please read into Kirgistan a bit more.

I think Iran isn't much better. Normally pretty relaxing drive and then suddenly somebody cuts you off without warning. These kind of things.

I do agree that Iran is more exotic, but depends what you like.
However, more importantly, if you're on a tight schedule and you're only going through North of Iran, you are not really seeing the country so you might as well skip it.
I would say you haven't seen Iran when you didn't visit a city like Esfahan. (even better, include Yazd)

Next to that, these are very hot months for Iran/Turkmenistan/Uzbekistan.

I am planning a very similar ride to yours, I have a guy who lives in Rotterdam who is also interested.
Unfortunately we are planning to go in or around May 2020 please let me know if your plans change as I'd love to join you and I'm sure my man in Rotterdam would too
