Anyone else travelling west route to Cape Town from Nov/Dec/Jan to Jun
Hi everyone,
I will be starting a journey from the UK to S. Africa via the west route, starting late this year and plan to spend about 6 months on the journey. Keen to meet some new people and share some experiences. If you're heading this way and want some company let me know, whether its for the whole way or just for a beer when our paths cross. A bit about me; I'm James, 27, just due to be made redundant and looking forward to realising a long held pipe dream I'm pretty chilled out person and go with the flow. It takes quite a lot to get me stressed - I've found this is useful with the world of officialdom, bureaucracy and corruption I'm travelling for the experience and so I'm not wedded to a specific route - just a general direction (South!!) If you want to know more let me know I'm riding an XT660R I've not done anything as big as this, but I rode to Iran and back 6 years ago so I'm not a complete Newbie Afraid I can't speak French but experience suggests I'm pretty good at dealing with dodgy situations with sign language Look forward to hearing from you good people and sharing a beer in future James |
Got a bit more clarity now.
I plan to leave the UK around Dec 9th and be on the road for 6 months to S.Africa via the west route If anyone is going in the same direction and fancies sharing part of the ride at the beginning / middle or end, then just let me know. Always good to meet new people, but no pressure. Happy to ride alone, with someone else or in a group and will undoubtedly do all 3 at different times. Happy Riding |

we are a couple of 64 years old and we are planning to make a trip with our 4x4 in West Africa on beginning of 2017. We are planning to be in Dakar on 10th of January 2017 and to go for about two months to Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Ivory Cost, Ghana, ecc. Our goal is to reach Capetown but with different stops (traveling two months then return to Italy for few months then returning back and so....). We are Italian and we speak English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and off course Italian. If you are interest we could plane to make some steps toghether. Hi James,
I'm planning on heading down the West Coast with a friend, starting in May and doing it in 3 months. So, unlikely we'll meetup, unless you take more time, but it would definitely be great to hear how you get on, especially wrt borders like Mauritania etc. Best of luck, Richard |
Hi James,
Just doing the same route and currently in Dakar before pushing onto Mali, so it looks like I'm 4-8 weeks ahead of you. Let me know if you start catching up or if you need any advice on the borders/routes...so far I'd say Diama over Rosso all the way! Will |
