Australia to UK 2016 via Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Europe

Hi Guys :thumbup1:

Just thought I'd put this out there.
I'm planning mid 2016 Oz to UK. Shipping bike through South Korea to Vladivostok. Riding Mongolia, Kazakhstan then on towards Moscow down through northern Europe and eventually the UK.
Have always planned this to be a solo venture but some company would be good.
I'll be on my Triumph Tiger 800xc.

balthazard 25 Aug 2015 02:51

Hi, will you do/avoid Macadan and Road of Bones?

barneyrubble 25 Aug 2015 03:06

I'm not planning on going that far north. Planning to follow the Russian Chinese border round to Mongolia. Then back into Russia and into Kazakhstan.

luckygohappy 26 Aug 2015 18:32

Me too

Hi , as it says above I too would like to join your group or just whoever is going, have done all of Europe, in the UK now doing volunteer work and flying back for Xmas then it either a Tiger. Xc or a V Strom, must be a good idea to have two bikes the same though,
Will be bunked down in Sydney for the term in Aus

Regards Davo

Let met know your thoughts and we'll go from there if your keen

barneyrubble 27 Aug 2015 00:33

Hi Davo, there's no group only me. With regards to bikes, take what ever you want. Not sure it's massively important to have the same make and model and I guess it all depends on you overall budget. I'm taking the Tiger as that's what I got. See how things pan out but would be worth maybe having a chat when you're back in Sydney to see how things are aligning/panning out.
Cheers
Neil

From what I've found out I won't need a a Carnet De passage for Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan or Europe. Happy to be corrected on this but thats what my web searches have resulted in

Hey there Barney,

My best mate and I are also planning Oz to UK next year, although earlier than you by the sounds of things. We've also got a similarly hopeful budget to you.

We're planning on taking off in February - riding as much as we can South to North in Oz (we're Melbourne based), before shipping to KL and continuing from there. Just researching the China crossing now, and it goes without saying that the bigger the party, the cheaper the crossing. Did you plan to ride through China, or just around it? (Not sure what you meant by 'shipping through South Korea')

Very open to joining forces if it benefits all parties.

Jimmy

Hi Barney

You could look at this RR which is on now ongoing with a group from Chiang Mai Thailand to Vladivostok and reports on Hotels, Roads also some details on border crossing.

Could be of interest to you with good information.

Link........ http://www.rideasia.net/motorcycle-f...russia-10.html

I and a group of 2 Chinese riders will leave Shandong Province in June 2016 on a ride to the UK and back with our outward legs along the lines of yours.

If you decide you wish to travel into China then PM me as I could be able to help with some contacts with agents who can arrange all the correct documents to legally entry China on OZ plated bike it's not easy but can be done at a cost
.
Now do you miss the report posted on here just recently.

Here is a link for a guy who got his none Chinese plated bike across the border from Russia into China without a agent or a guide.

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...na-i-did-82852

Please keep me updated with your plans and maybe we can tie up along the way.

Hi Jimmy, I haven't planned on venturing into China on this trip and due to commitments in March back in the UK I couldn't start that early. Re shipping through South Korea. I'm basically shipping the bike from Oz to Vladivostok. It'll go in and out of Korea crated if that makes sense:yes:
Cheers

Philip Armstrong 14 Oct 2015 06:25

Hi all. I'm interested in the comments from both jamesa5454 & raycooknz.

I am in Melbourne and having my LC Troopy shipped to Asia (probably Singapore but will consider Port Kelang) to arrive in December. Plan is to drive through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, China ($$), Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan etc through Iran and Turkey then into Europe.

Two key points here that may help you guys (and me of course);
1) shipping to Singapore - my car is too tall and long for a standard 20ft container so can only use a 40ft high cube. That leaves 20ft of space! Happy to share the space/cost. Current quote is around $4k AUD. My get out of jail card is to go RORO at about $2k but then I would need to send my personal items separately.

2) China guide - I would like to find a like minded group to go through China in March or very early April. I will consider re-routing to Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan if that becomes a group preference.

Food for thought!! Anyway, have been researching this trip for quite some time so feel free to ask me any questions.

Thanks, Phil

Hi Barney,

I'm planning almost the opposite route to you. Looking to ship my bike to the UK and ride through Europe, Russia, Kaz, Mongolia and back into Russia to Vlad. Then ship to South Korea and over to North America to cross the TAT west to east ending in mid October.

We are both leaving in May so may cross paths somewhere around Kazakhstan. Might be good to catch up and see what's coming up.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Barney
Yes, May is about the earliest you want to start, still a bit cold but not too bad. I've done Vladivostok to Europe and back the opposite way 4 times now.
This year I went with a friend for the first time. We got on well, the problem was I had to wait for him every morning for 1 - 4 hours. I was ready and organized the night before, up early and ready to go while he had his stuff ... 3x more than needed - spread across the room.
Also he had problems doing over 400km per day, that was about his limit, Its normal for me to do 800 - 1200 - hence it took a lot longer.
If you plan on riding in a group I would make these rules clear at the beginning otherwise it could be frustrating.
I'll go alone next year.

Thanks for that. I'll be on my own at the moment.
Anywhere you'd recommend in Vladivostok accommodation wise or places to avoid?

Yep am using them to get the bike over there and possibly back to Australia from the UK too. The don't go directly to Vladivostok. I'm shipping frm Melbourne now directly to Busan then ferry to Vladivostok from Donghae.
