baja and then south into mexico January 2018

I am planning a slow ride through Mexico for 3 months.

Starting in Baja and working my way to La Paz and the ferry over to mainland
Mexico.

I have been to Mexico 10 times or more and speak Spanish reasonably well.

Looking to connect with someone with the time to enjoy the music, culture and the people.

I have enough time and money to go slow and enjoy my surroundings.

If that is of interest to anyone

Baja

I will be riding a KLR650

I hope to carry camping gear,
and am interested in staying in budget hotels and hostels.

I enjoy my beer and am not a fussy eater, so pretty much anything goes.

Hasta la vista

What dates in January are you going to Baja?

what type of rider are you? All pavement, all dirt or a mix? Your rider skill level?

I feel these questions are important to having a compatible riding buddy. I am interested in going to Baja sometime between January and March. I have not been to Baja but have ridden main land Mexico. Currently I don't have a riding partner and am slightly reluctant to go alone. I would be interested in riding some dirt, not necessarily the whole time though. I can ride anywhere between fast and aggressive to lazy and slow. I am not in a hurry and do want to enjoy the sights and culture. I will be riding a KTM 1090 adventure. Camping and hotels are both good options.

I am starting in California and would be returning to California after the Baja ride.

Wish I was going with you Leo. Too much BS going on around here now ... so trapped for a while ... but MAN, do I miss Mexico and especially Baja!

I like the look of the tours posted above in the Aquascalientes and Potosi areas.
I spent time there, doing a movie in Real De Catorce, which I can recommend for a stop over. Quite a bit of interesting history in the area.

Also some good museos like the Pancho Villa ones in several cities.

If you get to Mexico City you must visit Frieda's house. I was first there in the 70's, then again in the 90's ... different every time, great fun. Diego's is just a mile or two away. Staying near by beats staying in Central DF.

We also enjoyed San Miguel de Allende, Dolores de Hidalgo and Guanjuato.
Touristy but beautiful and Fun. More and more Mexicans now have CARS so traffic is pretty BAD just about everywhere you go. Bad news for riders.

Good luck, safe travels

i'll be going west to east from Tijuana to Playa del Carmen starting Jan 2018, also going slow and taking in the culture. I'll post a trip report as I go and would be happy to meet up and ride with anyone is it works out.

Hey I'm going to be doing a similar trip - but in an FJ Cruiser. I plan to leave LA around Dec. 15th, drive down Baja and eventually make my way over to the Yucatan around Feb 1st. Ultimately I plan to drive to Tierra del Fuego (shipping over Darien Gap).

Let me know if our dates ever match up maybe we can meet up for some beer and/or culture. Mole in Puebla and Oaxaca is an absolute must and highlight for me.

Here's my blog: Home - Ushuaia or Bust, Drive to South America It doesn't have a lot of travel specifics yet, but I will put them up soon.

Mexico 2018

My wife and I are slowly moving the other way, Sth America to North Mexico. Currently (Dec 27) we are in Tulum. We will be travelling west through Yacatan, Campeche towards Oxaca possibly take a cooking course. Then up via Mexico City... We are riding two 690s; let us know your progress as our paths may cross. It would be good to get some info over a beer, Cheers. Kevin and Celia.
