BAM and ROB in July 2016

Hi there,
I also plan to go back to Far East Russia this summer to ride the BAM and RoB to Magadan.

This year I have 30 days holiday in July and want to ride the Bam and RoB via OSM. Plan to ride as fast as possible from Romania to Lake Baikal (10-14 days depending if I spend some days in the Altai/Tuva) and then head on the BAM and RoB to Magadan. I’m considering also the Tuva track but I think is too much for 30 days.
This one will be tight.
My bike is a V-Twin, 600 cc, 1993, Honda Transalp.
From Magadan I want to ship the bike to Vladivostok and from there by Yuri from Links to Europe. I worked with him before and was good. He also has good references from other travelers. I would like to split the container and the costs with other riders who will want to ship back from Vladi.
I will fly direct home from Magadan.
I’m looking for anyone planning a similar trip, and want to share information and ride together at least parts of the road and/or organize the shipping of the bikes back.

If anyone is interested please let me know your thoughts about it.

Ask Chris Bright his opinion about using a Transalp on those routes. He's an experienced rider and the lack of ground clearance made it impossible. He had to abandon it there and buy an enduro bike.

Sounds like an ambitious plan for disappointment

It's because Adrian took a Transalp on the BAM that I did so too. The wet conditions in 2013 meant that the poor suspension and chocolate teacup clutch were shown for what they were. Take whatever bike you want, but for enjoyment, if I did it again I'd take a bike that was fit for purpose. In 2013 I ended up borrowing a mate's XCh and was easily able to negotiate the road and obstacles. See the RR in my signature, below.

hello,

i know that the Transalp is not perhaps the best bike for BAM and RoB. But it is the one I have.

Nevertheless, I did a trip from Romania to Vladivostok via Caucasus - Central Asia and Mongolia in 2012. Also shipped the bike to Magadan and ride it back. Got stuck solo on OSM with a fried clutch. Got rescued, fixed/changed the clutch an continue on the Federal Highway to Yakutsk and Mirny - where I damaged the wheels and had to fly to Moscow.
All part of the adventure.
This year I have Hyperpro suspension and will fit Excel rims.

Disappointment will be to stay home.

Anybody joining me? :D

Hi,

there is another option which I did not mention so far.

Is anybody interested to fly to Magadan and ride back to Europe my bike?

It would save a lot of time and money at both ends.

how much would that be approximately?

i am riding a 1994 transalp plus money wouldn't be a problem nor is time this year :) i'd have around 65 days to do the trip... so probably i'd join you in the beginning. plus i'd like give mongolia a try, as i am already there :D

that could be interesting for all the guys saying he set sail for failure: Solo trip through Siberia, Bam Road and Mongolia. | Adventure Rider

Starting when in Magadan?

Hi Pheb,

how much time or money?

Money wise, the cost of shipping from Magadan to Europe.

You have your bike in Mongolia? We can team up near Baikal or to Yakutsk.

I would say around 24-26 of July. I want to fly out on 26 July.

But I can try and get a business visa and have a longer period for temporary import of bike.

So it can be a few days later I guess..
