Canada to Argentina very soon
 

Greetings,

I'm headed away from the frigid temperatures of the Canadian capital and on to roads with less salt. I have no particular timeline. Planning to leave late March or early April 2013 and arrive when I arrive. Anyone interested in all or part of this journey let me know. I'm 27, male, ride a Suzuki DR650, speak passable Spanish.

The main thing I'm worried about is the rainy season in Central America but might squeak past it.

Any takers??

Don't worry about the rain.... Frogg Toggs and some good boots! I rode the same time a couple years ago.

Have a blast, I went as far as Panama and am loathing to go all the way.

Welcome to the HUBB, youll have a great time and meet lots of overlanders heading South, especially as you get onto the Pan American in Central America and cross to South America - theres only a few routes.

Yes! I'm heading that way I'll land in Phoenix 21/3/2013 and then drive around AZ,NV and Californnia up to SF and then taking Hw 1 down and cross border around 1 of april. I would like to get to Maz in time for "Semana de la moto" but no real plans just :mchappy:
I'm Danish male 35 and will be riding a Suzuki DL-650 V-STROOM! :P I also speak Spanish(gocho... hehe) and English, German and Danish ofc.

I plan on using tent as much as possible to cut cost. Though I won't do any roadside camping..

I just had an impromtu brain fart. Depending on what your plans are beyond South America, and where you live in Canada, I may have a proposition for you.

I'm from Ottawa and am in the Rio area of Brazil at the moment. I'm on a 2010 DR 650, nicely accessorized for travel. Looking at different options to get it back North, other than riding. One way was enough.

The brain wave is that we trade bikes, if of similar value of course. My bike is here and ready to roll, yours is there and, well, probably covered in snow hahaha. I have to come back to Canada within the next couple of weeks for a couple of weeks and could sort out the paperwork issues with you then.

You could get out of the winter weather even sooner. It's summer here :).

Your thoughts?

Sounds good buddy, we should be on a pretty similar timeline for crossing the border. I'll be a few weeks behind you but can probably catch up. I'm good with the camping, got all my gear. Are you going all the way down?

My Ride will end in Venezuela 8th. of June when my flight is going home, I have made reservations on a boat (MS Independence) to cross from Panama to Columbia 16th. of May.

I hear ya about being attached to your bike. I bought mine new and accessorized it exactly to my liking, sparing no expense. Just thought I'd toss the idea out there. I have a similar attachment to 4 other bike too ;). Must get counselling.

Shipping out of Brazil isn't nearly as straight forward as I'd hoped. I'm still waiting for an estimate from a freight forwarder. You can't deal directly with the airlines here. If you're going to ship back I'd suggest doing it from Buenos Aires.

I'll post the final arrangements when/if I end up shipping the bike. May just leave my bike here, go back to Canada for a month to sort out some tax stuff, and then come back down, see the rest of Northern Brazil, and ride 'er home. I have no timeline but don't relish the idea of having to pay the rapist fees charged to cross the Gap again. Haven't made up my mind yet as to what I'm going to do.

Thanks, I would GREATLY appreciate the info if you do decide to ship it home. My plan is to do the same but I'm so excited about the trip that I'm not thinking about the end of it too much.

Heading south from Pittsburgh in April to Argentina

I will be venturing south in two weeks from Pittsburgh bound for Argentina. Are you going through the Copper Canyon in Mexico? If so, it would be awesome to do this portion of the trip with someone. Either way I definitely interested in touring with someone for a bit. I too am a 27 male, ride a f800gs, and have no real time line for my trip south except that my Panama --> Columbia boat leaves in June. I finished my South America ride a few months ago on a dr650. The bike was golden. If you need an info on how I equipped the bike or the journey I documented it all at www.TheAdventureBegins.tv.

I'm still writing the part about shipping my bike back to the US. From Brazil it is difficult and costly. If took many weeks for me to get a quote and it wasn't even a complete quote. They could not guarantee a date or the final cost. Your best best might be to contact Rodolfo in Foz deo Iguacu for assistance at Bikers Help Desk. From Brazil, it might cost about $2000+.

I ended up riding from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires and shipped with Dakar Motors for $1700. They were upfront about the costs and extremely efficient. I rode in on a Monday and the bike shipped on a Friday. Then I flew out the next day.
