Cape Town to Cairo

Hi
Two of us are riding the east coast route from Cape Town to Cairo in mid September. Anyone keen to join us for some or all the way?

vagamoto 10 May 2009 17:56

Any takers

Are there any riders out there planning to ride through Africa this year?
Is there a downturn in adventure to match the economic mess?

Hi Dave
Glad to see you will be back on the road soon!
Spend lots of time in Kenya and Uganda. Lovely countries.

Make sure you visit Chris of Jungle Junction in Nairobi, there you will meet other bike travelers and Chris can take care of your bike, he is a good BMW technician that also worked at the BMW dealer in Cape Town.

Enjoy

We're on te Ruta 40 now, but I still think the East African Highway (Isiolo to Moyale, Kenya) is the worse the the Ruta 40.

I'd be happy to join anyone going southwards from Cairo, up to Uganda.

Hi there Johan, thanks for the info.
Do you have any idea where to buy tyres north of SA? I figure I may need a new rear around Addis. Thinking of shipping one up her, but would prefer to buy one locally if available.
Where are you now?
Cheers

David

Dave.
You will get tires in Nairobi. They have a KTM dealer up there. The BMW dealer was part of the car dealer and they might also get you tires.

Also mail Chris from Jungle junction. He is a super nice guy who will help to get you a tire. his details are on this link http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-nairobi-42777

When you´re at his place, ask him if he remember us. He fitted a new wiring harnass on my 1150GS back in 2004.

We are now in Salta, Northern Argentina, getting ready to go to Australia soon.

When we went up through Africa my parents visited us in Arusha (Serengetti) and brought me a new set of tires.
Talking of Arusha, a great place to stay there is just south of town on your way to the Sarrengetti park. It is a Snake Park owned by South Africans who let us stayed for free for a week. I think the name is the Maserani Snake Park and camp site. Overland trucks also uses their site. They have a workshop where you can do work on your bike too.

I still think Africa is the best adventure in the world, we will come back one day and enjoy the best sunsets in the world. Enjoy it!

I have a kenyan BMW GS 80 stuck in Cape Town since I did the trip from Nairobi visiting Zimbaue, Bostwana and Namibia. I will love to bring it back to Nairobi to fix the paperwork and ride it to Europe. Now I am in the Stans but I think these dates of mid september fit me. Maybe I can join your expedition if you do not mind. For details: miquelsilvestre@hotmail.com

. And I agree, Jungle Junction is a great spot and tyres will be for sure.

Cape Town upwards

Hi Miquel-Silvestre
I have emailed you, it will be good if you can join. I can practice my very bad South American spanish!
Cheers

It is not right to start half way up the continent: you must ride first to Cape Town and start at the beginning! So then you will be ready to depart Cape Town about 20 September, the same day as us.
I am a South African, riding with a Kiwi
