Central and South America Oct 2015

I'm heading to South America from New Orleans in October on a KLR650. I'd like to link up with a few folks and share the initial anxiety of traveling abroad on motorcycle where my proficiency of the language will be subpar... at first.

After spending a month on the TAT a few years back, the moto adventure bug took hold and I finally have the opportunity to scratch the itch. I have about 6 months to travel and would like to make it to Terra del Fuego. However, I never completed the TAT because the riding in Colorado was too ****ing rad. In fact, after Moab I turned back and spent a few weeks knocking out as many mountain passes as I could. I expect the same to happen in the Andes.

The extent of my trip planning at this point is based on the plethora of Marriott points I have at my disposal. Essentially, I can stay in the following cities for free:

Puerta Vallarta, Mexico City and Villahermosa, México
San Jose and Herradura, Costa Rica
Panama City, Panama
Bogota and Cali, Colombia
Santiago, Chile

Aside from Marriott Hotels, I'll be camping and staying at hostels.

Looks like there will be a good number of moto adventurers doing something similar in the same time frame. We should get a thread going or something so we can meet up and share our exploits(is there an app for that?).

PM me for contact info.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon,
I will be riding to Argentina around first or second week of October (after the HU California) on my BMW R1200GS. Leaving from Thousand Oaks, Calif.
I plan to ride the Pacific coast of Central America to Panama, then...boat? to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina (TDF), and am also looking for travel companion/s.
I also plan camping & hostels along the way. I am fluent in Spanish & English.
Let me know, maybe we can meet up somewhere.
Daniel

Jon and Daniel,

I am part of a group of 5 planning the same in October. There are a few others I've been communicating with that are maybes. A very large group may or may not work but I figure by the time we all get to Panama group dynamics will have sorted things out and we might break into a couple groups that work better. PM me and we'll talk.

I will be riding from Columbia to Argentina in January of 2016. I would love to meet up with fellows riders. However I am unsure of your time frame.

I am from Argentina and live in New York and want to send my bike to Cartagena Columbia. Then ride to Tierra del Fuego.
Let me know if this works for anyone interested.

I heading south after the HU meeting in North Carolina second week of October. I'll be crossing into Mexico at Matamoros because Ihave a frind in Brownsville where I can stay. Probably going to Monterey and then, wherever. Not looking for dirt, paved roads are good for me.

Jon,

This sounds exactly as the trip i am planning to be doing. I am flying to Boston next week and plan to start riding to south america a couple weeks later. One difference, i have planned to do the trip spread out over a year. Especially for crossing Mexico i would not mind traveling a little faster.

@Vicmitch i would like to meet up in North carolina in october.

As a noob here i can only PM you only after a few post so please send a message first. otherwise contact you once i have done enough posts

Capella,

I'm heading out the first or second week of october... thinking about riding the gulf coast into mexico. I want to set a course to get to Ushuaia before it gets too cold, sometime in April. I'm trying to travel light so I can ride some rougher terrain in boliva, peru, et al. What are you riding? Plans thus far?

Taos and DAS

You two are blasting through CA a little too fast for me. No way I'll be ready to cross the Darien in October. I'd love to keep in touch and share road wisdom, etc.

I have reserved a spot aboard the Stahlratte on Nov 12! Those of you heading south are more than welcome to crash here in New Orleans. Be careful, though... I originally set sail in 2010 and just now getting around to leaving.

Hi guys,
I'm already in La Paz Mexico and about to cross to the mainland this week but looking for a partner that likes to go on a slow pace.
I'm planing on getting to Colombia in January.

I'm slow anyway so no problem to catch up with me.
Anyone?

I am planning on crossing into Mexico about October 15, if anyone is going to be in the area.

Hey,

good to hear there are some other guys here heading to tierra del fuego that time! I'm going to buy a motorcycle in Guatemala mid of october (next week) and reach Colon at 12th of november to sign up for Stahlratte. After that im driving all down the pacific coast to tierra del fuego in 3 months (so my flight back to Germany will be mid of february).
So it would be awesome driving along with some of you if the time and place allows!

Greetings,
Tobi
