I really do hope that I can get issued a 6mth valid visa from Pak HC here in Aus, or Ill be pushing shit uphill when on the road. I don't intend on mentioning motorbiking, but how is everyone approaching their itineraries? Just main 'safe' locations and dates, no mention of mode of transport? I'm guessing omit Gilgit, just list as a couple of days in Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Lahore? Do they require hotel bookings or flight confirmations?

I know Iran also requires an LOI, so Ill be going through an agent, but does Uzbekistan?

Anyone going Nepal China Kyrgyzstan this year ?

inti 18 Feb 2015 20:34

Hello all, as we rearranged our travelplan, the 3. Sep is fine for us. We would love to be part of the group:

Petra & Frank (2 x DR650SE)

Greetings from northern Germany :mchappy:

kim 18 Feb 2015 21:14

Hi Everyone

After a bit of discussion between NAVO, my self and K3nny we have decided to stick together and go as one big group.

Navo have experience with large groups and they reckon registration won't be too much hassle as they will be less thorough if there are so many of us.

I think I have everyones e-mail address now so I will send everyone some information I have received from NAVO about visas for China.

Very excited now!!

Still a go for August 1st?

Is this group still a go for August 1st? I read the rest of the thread and couldn't tell if they got grouped in with everyone in September. I'll be traveling solo on a R1200GS and plan on making the trip around this time.

Permit/fee to cross wagah border with own vehicle?

Hi guys,
Does anybody know if there is a permit for your own vehicle needed when crossing the wagah border from pakistan into india?

The ministry of foreign affairs of germany mentiones on its homepage that one MIGHT need a permit for the own vehicle but nobody cited that in the forums.

Can anybody confirm that or is that not true? If YES, where and when do i have to obtain this permit?

Thanks mates!

AccelRus 6 Mar 2015 07:05

Hey all:

I spoke to Kim about what to do with some information
I came up with - and I'll post here and see what everyone
thinks.

Here goes: :)

A couple of things that may be of interest:

1) I have 2 quotes from guide companies that are both
cheaper than the one from NAVO.

They are cheaper by about $50 - $170 per person.

They also include accommodation in those lower prices.

At $40 / night (4 nights) that is $200 - $300 cheaper per
person, based on 4 people. At 6 people it is even cheaper

2) I am interested in taking a side trip out to Shipton Arch,
which is apparently the worlds largest arch, about 40 km from
Kashgar for a day hike. This would be optional:

Tushuk Tash (Shipton's Arch) - Images

Shipton's Arch - Wiki

We can set up the same 5 day crossing, but do Shipton Arch
on one of the days - for about an additional $80 per person
(for 4 people). That is with a vehicle to take us there
and back.

Another thought was to camp there overnight, if it works.

3) As the group is getting pretty large (about 15+ at last
count) I would prefer a smaller group.

To break off a smaller group, we could either:

a) split some people into a different group. With
a different company and guide we would move faster
through the process - even on the same dates

b) do a group a few days, or even a week earlier
Options for that would be:
- 7 days earlier (c/w the same Thurs -> Mon)
- 4 days earlier (Mon -> Fri)

Let me know if any of this of interest...

Cheers !

kim 6 Mar 2015 19:11

Hi Everyone,

Those on the e-mail list should have received an email from me this morning with information on LOIs, Visas, Meeting Point, Cost and Payment. It's got some fairly important information so make sure it hasn't ended up in your junk.

Like I say in the email and as you can see above AccelRus is looking to arrange a second smaller group leaving around the same dates with another tour company, the price is cheaper and accommodation is already included. I appreciate that a lot of you have said you are 100% committed to the trip I am organising however if it turns out AccelRus's group or another group is more to your liking because of departure date, itinerary, cost or accommodation preference then please feel free to join the group that suits you better. No one needs to commit 100% to my group until we need to pay the deposit so take your time in choosing. I am sure we will have enough people to run this trip so don’t feel you have to stick with this group out of loyalty.

AccelRus 11 Mar 2015 21:19

Bit of an update... Been swamped with life stuff, but here
is what I know now.

There are now 6 people considering going a week earlier,
so things are shaping up nicely.

Back and forth with a couple of agencies confirming everything
and it looks like this group will fly.

Cost is going to be approx: $1,146 USD / 7044 CNY

That may vary depending on the exact locations we stay at,
type of accommodation, side trips, etc.

The cost includes all the document/license/insurance/inspection
/customs/border/guide transport and meals, etc as well as
accommodations for guide and travelers.

Cheers !

Hi All,

I appreciate I'm late to the party but have read the entire thread so have a feel for the general plans that have been made.

I'm planning a UK - Vietnam ride May 15 - October 15.

My current plan is to transit China c. 1 August coming from Irkeshtam.
I don't want to poach people from groups that have already been formed but do let me know if people are interested in teaming up for the start of August for the stretch through to Islamabad?

Couple of questions I'd really appreciate help with:

1. Security on the KKH in Pakistan. Can't find much up to date info on here about the situation. What's the general feel/good sources of info?
Are you guys planning on having a guide in Pakistan? Usually relatively relaxed on this stuff but doesn't appear the safest part of the world currently.

2. No doubt this has been tried before but anything to stop you packing your bike onto a local truck and then travelling across China like that? I want to ride the whole thing but if this avoids costs then I'd be happy to do it.

I'll be on a limited budget and keen to get through China and down to India in pretty quick time.
First trip out east but did a UK - South Africa drive a couple of years back so not totally green.

Thanks in advance.

cejnys 18 Mar 2015 03:21

traveling east

hey guys,

Reading this post it looks like I may be a bit to late to join this party.....even though I would like to join. Please can you send me a PM with your planned details as I would like to learn. I am new to this forum and cannot send PM's.

Currently I am on my 6 months trip around central & south america and would like to extend it a bit further to europe, asia and australia. Should be shipping my ktm 990 to europe late April.

Thank you for your help,

Radim

Kayjay 18 Mar 2015 05:02

Thomas_HH
You need a carnet to enter India cent percent.

grahamtheman 26 Mar 2015 16:27

I just read though the whole forum and I believe I'm caught up. I'm on a year long service trip through Asia that will end in August and I plan on buying a bike in Tajikistan in late August. Your itinerary sounds amazing and I already have a 10 year Chinese visa but I can't commit to a trip in early September being that I'm not sure how long it will take to acquire a bike.

Is anyone planning on riding in the northern istans (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan...) in September/October? Or even taking any rout from Asia towards Europe? I'm looking for a partner but having a difficult time finding one. Any other forums you would recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

-Graham

Hi there everyone, I would love to join this group to cross china from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan on the KKH, I am riding a motorbike and would be happy to delay my original crossing time of July to September if this fits in with everyone else? I hope I am not too late to join? Emma X

KKH

hi there everyone, new to these threads and not sure if my post came through....I would love to join a group crossing China in September, would this be possible? I will be riding a motorcycle and travelling alone from England to India, v keen to get costs down for china so this sounds ideal, let me know your thoughts, emma x

Tom Vemer 6 Apr 2015 17:29

Hey Emma,

I wil be doing a similar trip and wil leave Holland 25th of april and will be (if everything goes as planned) arriving in kyrgyzstan arround july. We could ride togheter to Kashgar(China) and all the way to Kathmandu (Nepal). Cheers Tom

moholliday 6 Apr 2015 18:47

Hi
I'm doing the same trip this Summer. It would be ideal to share the costs of guides while crossing china from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan.

Michael

emtrenchard 6 Apr 2015 18:53

KKH

Hi tom,
that sounds ideal....thought i may be a little late for getting a group together, but that sounds like a super route, meeting in Kashgar sounds great, shall we fix a date and try to sort out guides/permits etc before hand or do you think its easier to sort there? Are u any good at the organisation part of things?
Emma
Ps. fab that you're able to join also mike - lets try and get another couple of people together....

Tom Vemer 6 Apr 2015 19:19

Hey Michael and Emma,

You can contact me via e-mail at comedia@live.nl so we can share our thoughts and wishes.

Greetz, Tom

emtrenchard 8 Apr 2015 10:16

hi tom, sure thing, gotta do a days work but will send email early eve, I was thinking to maximize time in india that I would probably get my visa in Bishkek for india Pakistan and china meaning I will be getting there around a month early , I imagine some time late june, the plan to cross late july ....would that suit you too? perhaps we could meet in Bishkek and sort guids from there....bet prices would be lower than trying to sort all from here...what are your thoughts? Emma

moholliday 8 Apr 2015 10:53

Yeah, if we organize for a date for meeting in Kyrgyzstan then we could take it from there. Get quotes for the prices before, but then shop around in Kyrgyzstan for the guides whilst awaiting visa confirmation.
Mike

Tom Vemer 8 Apr 2015 11:30

Yes all sounds good! Bishkek in late June and crossing late July.
I have read on a couple of forums that you can only apply for a paki visa in you home country or sent your passport there, so be aware of that ;)
Also i wil do some more research about the obligations to drive in China.

Cheers

moholliday 8 Apr 2015 17:26

Hi there, I am interested in joining a pre organised group crossing the KKH. Please PM, or reply on post. Many thanks

Happy to hear from all road brotha's and Sista's heading the same way possibly sharing guide/permit/costs etc.
