Copper Canyon March 2010
 

Hi I am looking for people to travel through the Copper Canyon Mexico with for the last 3 weeks of March 2010.
I will be travelling on my Honda XR650 and am fully self sufficient but would like to travel with a 4x4 or motorcycle as it is prudent not to travel off road alone.

My dates are flexible, anywhere inbetween them is ok... It can be as long or as short as your timetable...

I am in Southern Mexico at this time and can meet you anywhere along the route...

What are your plans for the Cooper Canyon? I rode to Creel last year but did not go to Batopilas because I was solo ,loaded and just starting my 2 month trip so did not want to push myself.
I will again be going to Mexico for 3 months this time, entering at Aqua Prieta on about the first or second week in March with no plans other than to get to Yaviza Panama.

Hi Mike,
If weather is OK go to Creel and hang out. Riders come through Creel every day going every which way. It's a very popular destination but a bit COLD right now but might be OK in March. Creel is 8000 ft. I was there in March, had snow! (but only for a day, then it warmed right back up) But if weather is good, get down to Batopilas (2200 ft) where temps should be in the 80's. :thumbup1:

A fair number will be heading down to Batopilas and probably heading out to El Fuerte and the coast from there. It's done all the time. So sit back and take your pick of guys that come through. Really not a big deal and not at all dangerous going from Creel to Batopilas.

We have a group of 4 to 6 from Colorado will heading down to Batopilas the last week of march. We will likely base in Bato and do some day tripping for 3 or 4 days. Should be in Creel around the 21st. Feel free to join us. Looks like the bikes will be a couple of 650 hondas and drz's and a ktm.

Hi guys, a little slow getting back to you but I am still in....

I am unsure of entry and exit points Calvin, so if you could give me the next largest city it would be greatly appreciated...

Are there maps available???

I am going to be approaching from the south, Cancuun and should be ready to ride on Monday March 8th..

My window is until the end of March and then I need to gumball it back to Canada for April... ish

So this gives me a 3 week window to explore at this time .. subject to change... Like the weather... Let me know what is good for you and I can either stall for a bit or whatever...

If more people were to join us it would be cool, but not necessary...

I have 2 HUGE 45Liter hardbags which would be great to shed before the trip or toss into a truck, cause they limit my abilities, mostly because they make my bike as wide as a bus.. But all the spare parts and tools have come in handy this trip...

Last year I rode back from the border starting on April 21 and had to wear everthing I owned!! Starting just north of Vegas the temps. in the morning were minus 5. rising to only 5 or 6 this was all the way to Calgary.
Just missed a huge 1 week snow storm in Montana by 2 days!!...but this is a different year and it could be totally different.

All of the Mexicans I met in Chihuahua( El Clan Moto Club) are expecting me for a visit so I do not have a firm time when I might ride the Canyon.

We will touch base around the 10th of March.
Ciudad Chihuahua , Nuevas Casas Grandes, Hildalgo de Parral are close bigger cities, maps and information are available in Creel re the roads in the Canyon, sounds like lots of riders to be in the area, last year for 5 days I did not see any riders in Creel.

Hi Mike, welcome to the HUBB. Are you going to be in CC for the next few days touring about? I'm in San Luis Potosi and will be heading your way in a few days to tour around before heading home to Vancouver. Look out for a black DR650 that looks like a KTM640 with soft bags.

I ended up in Chihauhau City and am going to Ciudad Victoria in the next 2 days so have a good time in the canyon! The frost was very heavy yesterday in the morning in Nuevo Casa Grandes and very cold in Arizona.
Today is much better!
