D-Day 70th Anniversary, Normandy, France. June 3rd -8th 2014
 

Hello all,

a friend and I will be calling across to Normandy from London come Tuesday 3rd to Sunday 8th June 2014 for the 70th Anniversary of the D-DAY Landings. Plans are very fluid (i.e. there aren’t any) but we hope to visit some of the battlegrounds and cemeteries, pay our respects and attend a few of the 70th Anniversary commemorations.

We’ll be mixing camping and B&B’s depending on availability and I hope to be riding a 38 year old BMW (insensitive I know) so speed will not be key.

I’m guessing some others may be heading in the same direction, if so let me know so we can potentially catch up over there or share a few miles on route.

You might want to firm up your plans a little before leaving. Accommodation in the beaches area is at a premium during those weeks, I believe there was a request posted a couple of months ago for help from someone having trouble finding camping space.

There is mention of a friend of a friend who has a holiday home in the area so perhaps if everything is fully booked he'll have to hand us the keys.

Have a great trip - I suspect the atmosphere will be something else.

Personally I will be passing through a week or so after the anniversary - fingers crossed it will be a little less frenetic and will provide a chance for some quiet reflection on the events of 1944.
