Dragon Rally Feb 2010

I'm going to the dragon rally in north wales . Was wondering if anyone else was going. My first time at the dragon any advise welcom.

Threewheelbonnie 15 Dec 2009 08:31

If it's on Anglesey again (again again again), prepare for galeforce winds.Apart from that just turn up, have a walk round and talk to as many people as you can. I think in ten years there's been one Dragon you might consider a bit nasty weather wise, so while it's worth checking the forecast there's no need to dig out the studs and Swedeish ski frames.

I won't be there this year, heading for the Elefant and can't get out again a week later. Look for the Thumper Club guys they always give a warm welcome to anyone who's not been before.

Usually you'll be offered hot soup when you check in. The "bar" is a table served from a van load of cans on a good year, there is a sort of club house if they end up on Anglesey again. There is usually a burger van. So, if you are happier travelling light, having a few cans of Boddingtons and the sort of burger most people will only eat after fifteen pints, there is that option. If you want a nice Martini, Moules Mariniere, Meatballs and tagliatelli, treacle sponge and a nice bottle of Bordeaux, followed by port and cheese (that was what I had this year!), you need to bring your own.

Just read this :taz:

indu 28 Dec 2009 15:33

I'll be there too. Due to time constraints I'm cheating a bit as I'm flying in to the UK and being picked up by a friend whom is also providing me with a loaner bike. Still beats not going, though :) I'm very much looking forward to it!

debseed 28 Dec 2009 18:18

Love your blogs, Hans. I hope we can put on some snow for you!!

trophydave 28 Dec 2009 18:37

There is always 2011. I always have a spare drink in the cocktail cabinet (avoid the Sidecar (Brandy and cointreau), seems appropriate but tastes awful) for anyone who wants a chat :thumbup1:.

Hi, thank you for your kind words :)

A snowless Dragon Rally is ok too as it is something else for me to ride in February without it. Above 0 C, two wheels, not a Guzzi - a nice change :)

Right now I'm getting ready for the New Year's Rally some 2 hrs ride from me - and the temp is currently -21 C. I'm pondering how to bring along freezable drinks without them freezing rock solid. I might have to use a cooler bag only with heating elements in it...

britch 16 Jan 2010 15:13

I received the control meet location today, and we are going to be at a new location in the woods in the hills, sounds interesting :thumbup1:

indu 16 Jan 2010 20:30

Yay! I'm booking my ticket over to the UK tomorrow (Sunday) and after what you wrote I'll be looking even more forward to The Dragon Rally!

steve T 16 Jan 2010 23:57

Havent recived my control locations yet ,the location sounds interesting . Looking forward to meeting you all .

After 20 continuous year of being a Dragoner (is that the right term?) I would say prepare for the worst weather and hope for the best. You WILL get cold, you will PROBABLY get wet and you will MOST DEFINATELY get muddy.

Oh! And make sure you wash your bike when you get home.
