Hi Calypso,

I'm on solo trip from roscoff via ORADOUR-SUR-GLANE, Millau Viaduct, Cote D'azur, Route Napolean and back north from 23rd May till 31st May...

Above is only kinda a plan at the moment... Was thinking of Chunnel back via Engerland and Holyhead over the Bank Holiday weekend...

Was planning to be in Normandy that last weekend sometime... maybe meet up for a beer somewhere if your still there?:thumbup1:

hi calypso,
just came back last week from my first trip abroad with 5 mates, went overnight ferry from plymouth to roscoff, down through brittany to a small village called reminiac.in the village is a bike friendly digs run by a british guy called ken.his advert is in mcn most weeks. spotlessly clean, large garage for bike storage.
we left then on route to st malo,up through a forestry area which ken recommended, vertually no traffic !!!. from st malo up through normandy,we stopped at ohmaha beach,it was late afternoon when we got there the american cemetery had just closed, the views on the top is absolutly stunning!lots of info around the sites on bunker etc, would have liked to have got there earlier to have a good look around.
i would imagine that it gets very busy in the summer months, the road which runs around the coast dont actually join one part to the other they "T" off the main routes to the beaches, which means what ever goes down gotta come back up!! if you know what i meen.
a bike is definatly the best option for going to various sites, because you will be able to weave in an out of traffic,i hard hard luggage so most of my gear could be locked away secure, which some of the boys only had soft luggage- much more difficult when you have passports etc to carry around with you.
we found france to be very, very expensive,a bottle of beer was averaging from 5 to 6 euros-(a bottle not a pint).we met some bikers on the ferry on the way home which had been on a trip from uk to santander, around northern spain and back up through france. they said that as soon as they got over the french border every thing was much more expensive in france.
hope this will help, have a great trip.

Cruiser: il be in Normandy from 15th-22nd May, so we may have to grab a beer another time, another country. sorry dude but work committments fouled things up. il be keeping a diary as i go so if i find the road to valhalla il let you know.

Jenros: cheers for the heads up on the "prices", a few people have said it to me. hopefully my pockets will stretch deep enough to get me there and back. as long as there's petrol in the tank im happy.

really looking forward to it.

hatchet 11 May 2009 03:01

Hi calypso

Myself and seven other guys will be on the may 23rd ferry to Roscoff, on our way to the Pyrenees. So at least you can have some company on the ferry if you want.

Only thing is we’re not the youngest motorbike group in the world.

We’ll be heading straight from the ferry to Reminiac
, to the biker accommodation mentioned above.

Anyway, hope to see you in Roslare.

Kevin

Sounds good.:thumbup1:

Couple of us were wondering if the rugby would be on alright.

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a Leinster jersey for the trip( I’ve never been slow when it comes to jumping on bandwagons:blushing:).

See you on the 23rd.

Kevin
