Europe - Japan 2014
 

Hi at all,

I intend to do a bike trip in Spring 2014.
So far I planed to start in April 2014 and have about 4-5 Month time.
I hoped to go this route Switzerland - Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - Gilgit (KKH) - China (Beijing or Shanghai) - Japan

I heard that you need a Guide for China for the Paperwork and all that is really expensive.

I am not sure how far I'll get and just go as far as I can during the available time and return home from wherever I are after 4 Month.
I don't intend to spend a lot of time in Europe and had fast to Turkey and Iran.
I haven't planed the detailed route yet, so this could be discussed if you have special needs.

I am looking for travel partners that want to tag along. I just think it is more fun in a Group and we could split the Costs for the China Part.

Let me know if anybody is interested in joining me or have good tips on where to go or stay.

Anybody an Idea on how save it is to take the KKH? I heard the north of Pakistan is controlled by Tribes and therefore not save??

I just came home after a trip on my own from the Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur by bike . The safety is 'ok' . Like everywhere in the world you have to keep your eyes opened . Pakistan was a great experience . I went from Zahedan ( Iran ) to Quetta and from there to Sukkur and then the way up to Lahore . I had police escort's sometimes . The only place i feld unsafe was Zahedan in Iran .

I am doing a similar trip to you around the same date.

Leaving Europe June 2014 and then going through Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India and ending in Nepal.

Would quite like to do Pakistan with someone else, plan is to enter Zahedan and exit Lahore.

The last thing I read on China was that it was not current possible to ride you own bike from one province to another, even with a guide. So while you you could enter china with a guide you couldn't actually get anywhere. But things change so fast that information could be out of date or just wrong. I hope so.

well still far away and regulations in china can change so fast...
