Also, you guys going east - brrrrrr gotta ride across Europe and Turkey in January? A bit cold...

Hi Regie,

yes, it´s getting more and more difficult to ride the east. The only way i figured out to get to this side of afrika, is to take a ferry from italy to israel, crossing the border to egypt at sinai...

This would be the route. Bus as i already said, it´s quite difficult right now. And i think the situation is getting worse, if the russian airplane crashed in north sinai was actally hit by a missile...

So maybe i have to join you guys at the west-coast-party at the end :-)

regie 5 Nov 2015 17:25

Problem is...

Hey, the problem is - if you go to Israel you won't be able to get into Sudan.

:welcome:

Everyone is welcome to the west-coast route party, the more the merrier!

Advantages of the west route are:

- not so cold as the east route
- even more nice people who do this same route
-you can do the eastern part on your way back
-sudan->israel=less problems
- etc.

Hi Regie,

well, it´s possible, but you´ll need a second passport. costs 59€ around here...

Haha, what an advertising... :-)

Have you any idea ,when you´ll start the trip?

noplacelikehome 6 Nov 2015 16:05

:thumbup1: As you may have noticed is that advertising is not my core business, motorcycling is.

My aim is to leave Holland at about the 15th of january 2016. Depends if I can finish work and clean out my rental appartment in time.

Hi. Yeh I agree that the West is starting to look easier though much longer. Are you planning to get Carnet for the North Africa bit?
I would be interested in joining a trip leaving January - I'm Irish

regie 6 Nov 2015 19:59

2 passports

Ive never really understood the 2 passports thing. I think countries like sudan, saudi etc actually check everything if you even go close to israel. For instance, if you have a jordan border crossing stamp in your passport, or even an unexplainable gap in your passport, they can refuse entry...

something to think about...

The west route party route is indeed longer= longer enjoyment.

Concerning my carnet, this week I decided to get to Kenya (and back through East route) without carnet. Read pros and cons, horror and easy breazy stories, mission impossibles to always look on the bright side of life stories and just decided to make my own plan: without carnet. The possiblities are changing every minute.
Worst case: different border crossing, detour (fly/different country), apply for a carnet after all (and be stuck for a few weeks) or just turn around. As long as I'm enjoying myself it's fine, just see what happens once i'm there.

Egypt will be the biggest challenge and Iran will be (almost) out of the question.

Ok then,

regie,
Brian Dublin,
digger1,
d.sanchez,
noplacelikehome,

in consideration of you guys going all the same way at almost the same time, i would be interested in some more details. So it would be nice if we could get together for a skype conference, if you´re ok with that. time is slowly running out...

What do you think?
Let me know,

Cheers,
Manu

Yes I'd be up for that. I am definitely doing the trip now from start of January, west coast , Europe to Morocco. I have made contact with some great local bikers in Nigeria and they have been really helpful re route planning. They are also keen to meet up en route which would be great.
I'm going solo unless I can hook up with another rider - have made contact with a few people through this forum who seem keen but then no contact after a few mails (must be me!)
My skype is name bmontyq
Look forward to hearing from you

regie 20 Nov 2015 08:35

yeah

Im keen to hook up...

...will have my new ktm next week here in tbilisi, will run it in for a couple days, make sure everything is propper then head across turkey to greece. May catch a ferry to venice, ride across italy and catch another to morocco, or ride all the way to spain - depending on weather, time, money...Still on track to be in morocco first week of jan.

noplacelikehome 22 Nov 2015 08:46

yo,

i'm also keen to hook up.

skype call would be great and talk details and general bike stuff.

my preparations consists mainly of prepping my bike and arrange practical, non biking stuff. no concrete date for departing yet and not to much details; just get to Kenya and get my info as I get along.
