Germany - capetown Jan/Feb 2016
Hello everyone,
the trip should start in january or early february from southern germany. Ammount of time: 8 months, so i´m not in a hurry... i will do it on a suzuki DR650. Anyone interested to join? :-) |
cape town
hi,
I am doing the same way but starting in April? |
:-D Hi Hans,
nice to meet you here as well :-) As i already posted in "Wüstenschiff"-Forum, april is too late for me unfortunately. |
I'm riding my 650 strom from Holland to Kenia at the end of January 2016, I'm interested in joining.
I like to do a few weeks in Morocco and hopefully (depending on the weather) ride as much of the Atlas mountains as possible. My route is not really planned, just get to Kenia. |
Hi,
I am also headed to Cape Town from the UK via the West coast, departing January 2016 |
hey digger1,
welcome to the west coast party! Any concrete dates that you both are taking the ferry to Morocco? |
Thanks,
No dates booked, I can be flexiable when I depart. |
wrote you an email!
might be starting at the same time from germany. would be nice to compare the planned route and plannings etc. |
+4
I'm flexible in dates too. My aim is to be in Gibraltar as early at the end of January as possible, depends on my job, preparing my bike and renting out my house and/or moving my stuff. I have a stopover for about two days in Algeciras to change my tires into more dirt orientated ones. Then cross to Tanger med. From Tanger med. I have no fixed plan, now that's freedom! Just zigzag Morocco and than into Mauritania. I'm in the fase of applying for a carnet de passage etc. |

East-west
Hey, I looked at going via the east but it seemed too difficult (currently in Georgia/Turkey and heading to Africa). Think I'll be in Morocco around Christmas time but could be convinced to go east if someone had more luck than I did figuring it out. Also, you guys going east - brrrrrr gotta ride across Europe and Turkey in January? A bit cold...
Cheers Regie |

yes, it´s getting more and more difficult to ride the east. The only way i figured out to get to this side of afrika, is to take a ferry from italy to israel, crossing the border to egypt at sinai... |
https://www.google.de/maps/dir/Haifa...7!2d29.4925679
This would be the route. Bus as i already said, it´s quite difficult right now. And i think the situation is getting worse, if the russian airplane crashed in north sinai was actally hit by a missile... So maybe i have to join you guys at the west-coast-party at the end :-) |
Problem is...
Hey, the problem is - if you go to Israel you won't be able to get into Sudan.
Regie |
:welcome:
Everyone is welcome to the west-coast route party, the more the merrier! Advantages of the west route are: - not so cold as the east route - even more nice people who do this same route -you can do the eastern part on your way back -sudan->israel=less problems - etc. |

well, it´s possible, but you´ll need a second passport. costs 59€ around here... |

Have you any idea ,when you´ll start the trip? |
:thumbup1: As you may have noticed is that advertising is not my core business, motorcycling is.
My aim is to leave Holland at about the 15th of january 2016. Depends if I can finish work and clean out my rental appartment in time. |
Carnet?

I would be interested in joining a trip leaving January - I'm Irish |
2 passports
Ive never really understood the 2 passports thing. I think countries like sudan, saudi etc actually check everything if you even go close to israel. For instance, if you have a jordan border crossing stamp in your passport, or even an unexplainable gap in your passport, they can refuse entry...
something to think about... regie |

Concerning my carnet, this week I decided to get to Kenya (and back through East route) without carnet. Read pros and cons, horror and easy breazy stories, mission impossibles to always look on the bright side of life stories and just decided to make my own plan: without carnet. The possiblities are changing every minute. Worst case: different border crossing, detour (fly/different country), apply for a carnet after all (and be stuck for a few weeks) or just turn around. As long as I'm enjoying myself it's fine, just see what happens once i'm there. Egypt will be the biggest challenge and Iran will be (almost) out of the question. |
Ok then,
regie, Brian Dublin, digger1, d.sanchez, noplacelikehome, in consideration of you guys going all the same way at almost the same time, i would be interested in some more details. So it would be nice if we could get together for a skype conference, if you´re ok with that. time is slowly running out... What do you think? Let me know, Cheers, Manu |

Yes I'd be up for that. I am definitely doing the trip now from start of January, west coast , Europe to Morocco. I have made contact with some great local bikers in Nigeria and they have been really helpful re route planning. They are also keen to meet up en route which would be great. I'm going solo unless I can hook up with another rider - have made contact with a few people through this forum who seem keen but then no contact after a few mails (must be me!) My skype is name bmontyq Look forward to hearing from you |
yeah
Im keen to hook up...
...will have my new ktm next week here in tbilisi, will run it in for a couple days, make sure everything is propper then head across turkey to greece. May catch a ferry to venice, ride across italy and catch another to morocco, or ride all the way to spain - depending on weather, time, money...Still on track to be in morocco first week of jan. karl |
yo,
i'm also keen to hook up. skype call would be great and talk details and general bike stuff. my preparations consists mainly of prepping my bike and arrange practical, non biking stuff. no concrete date for departing yet and not to much details; just get to Kenya and get my info as I get along. |
brand new ktm sitting in the driveway
things are happening, got the new bike today, will probably leave tbilisi monday and start heading across turkey to greece. The ferry options greece-italy and italy-morocco are looking likely. On track for a jan take-off...

Quick question
Hey noplacelikehome!
When do you think you will arrive Morocco? Karl |
hey karl,
my original plan was to leave holland on sunday the 17th of january. I ordered a tent but from what I understood is that it will not arrive before half january so i think it will be a litte later. I don't precisely know how long it will take me to get to the south of spain, my estimation is about a week before my stop over in algericas. how about you? sounds like you are already having a great trip before arriving in morocco! |
Hey noplacelikehome, slight change in plan, will head to germany for Christmas new year, will leave bike in Italy, go back around 3,4 jan, and take ferry to Morocco. Still lookin to be in Morocco 1st 2nd week January. I like to take my time so I should still be in Morocco when you make it there. Hope we can meet up some time for the journey South.
Anyone else welcome to join. I think...the more the merrier! At least crossing that frickin Mauri border... Cheers Karl |
