Iceland?

Anybody have recommendations for Iceland? Will be there September 5-9. Looking to do some camping and general exploring!

Thanks,
Tracy

Hey Tracy

I haven't been there (yet) so can't give advice, sorry. But could I ask how are you getting your bike there? I heard there's a ferry from UK. If so, how much does it cost?

I'm currently in Bangkok riding my way to UK from Australia and I'd love to get to Iceland when I'm there.

Thanks
Mark

We did Iceland last year. There are two parts of Iceland; where the tourist buses reach from Reykjavik and everywhere else. Go everywhere else. Start with Landmannalaugar.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

There's no ferry from the UK. There's one from Hirtshals at the northern tip of Denmark. 48 hour crossing. Cost is not cheap at €800-900 return high-season although that includes food onboard. Deals can sometimes be found beginning and end of the season. Take a day or two on the Faroe Islands en route.

DeeGee has recently shipped his bike there (might be there now) so may have more info on his return.

Just returned from Iceland, everywhere is just amazing, but as Wildman says, don't go to the touristy places.

We rode some 4300 km around the whole island, and also some of the interior, though many F-roads were still closed in early july.

The parts I enjoyed most were Snaefellsnes, the westfjords, and ofcourse the highlands.

The south is also amazing, but compared to the rest I found it very busy, and slightly more expensive.

Pretty sure where ever you'll go, you'll enjoy it!
