Iceland, Norway, Finland, Estonia Etc To Turkey (ish)
Good evening fello travellers.
I am currently setting up for an approx 4-5 month ride, land in UK, hop over to Iceland for +/- 3 weeks ish then over to Norway and on the mainland. Will 99% be on a XT250 so wont be cutting any world speed records. Looking for, 1, Fello rider(s) who would like to hook up, part or all, love backroads and gravel etc, lite offroad and want to stay off motorways etc, take the road less travelled and room with a view. 2, Shipping options from NZ to UK or any better options. 3, Looking at the possiblity of leaving the bike somewhere over there to continue next year if this is a feasable option. 4, Any other good info for a fello traveller, while I am not fresh to travelling on a moto I have not experience this part of the world as yet. Cheers all Andi |
Give me a shout as you're passing Estonia. My bike's road-focused, but I'll show you around as much as I can.
An XT250 is a good option for Norway in terms of not being fast enough to get in trouble with the police. :D Check out Home - Trans Euro Trail. Quote:

Are the XT250 available there in Estonia?, other option was KL250 Super Sherpa, yes shipping is a heavy part of the cost. |
mototehnika.ee - motorcycles and powersport vehicles - pretty much all bikes for sale in the country get listed on that site.
https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/s...orbike&lang=en - a good idea of what's available on the continent. It may be a legit move to get a bike in Germany, put red export plates on it (cost a few hundred euros and come with EU-wide insurance, valid up to 12 months, do not require residency in Germany) and eventually sell the bike in your last destination within the EU (normally means it can be registered locally without paperwork problems or customs tariffs). |
I'll be in Iceland from mid-June to September if that fits with your plans. I'll be on my XT225.
[I think the only ferry to/from Iceland goes from Denmark (via Faroes). Of course, you can ship your bike and fly in/out from elsewhere.] |
In years past, the Iceland ferry had a special offer for motorcyclists, where if you booked passage both ways, you could opt for a few days' stopover on the Faroes for free on the way back. ;)

I have a slight setback now gents and the outcome to be decided probably next Wednesday, I had quite a wreck on my 690 on a back road here in NZ, a sheep bolted out of long grass and T boned the back of my front wheel causing a slide and big highside, I was only doing arong 50 km/hr so very lucky. Long story short, ambulance ride and pretty beaten up, right foot with torn Ligaments and tendons both knees taking a huge hit, the left one likely to need a full reconstruction so not sure how my plans will pan out now for this year ...gutted. |
