India - Pakistan KKH - China - Kyrgyzstan April 2016

Hi guys,

I am an overlander from Germany and I am on a trip from Germany to India. Right now I am crossing China and Tibet from Kyrgyzstan leaving to Laos (If anybody has question towards this road feel free to ask me).

Anyways after India I plan to drive back via the KKH. I would like to start leaving India towards Pakistan mid April 2016.

My questions: Does anybody did this trip already in mid April? How are the street conditions?

Who would like to join me for the China transit. I would like to do it short as possible to save some costs (3-5 days). I already have some quotes and now I can say I am experiences in do China crossing :D

Cheers from Tibet! Mathias bier

Hi Mathias

we might be interested in joining you, if the Nepal-China does not open early next year (which seems to be very likely that it's not going to open).
We are in Iran right now, continuing to Pakistan and India and eventually Nepal.
We're in a Toyota Land Cruiser, unfortunately without any spare seats. I don't know if the guides are OK with a wooden bench without any seat belts. We're from Germany as well, btw.

Cheers

Hi Heiner and Anna,

well couple of days ago we were very close to the border China to Nepal. The border of Zamdu (Friendship Highway Kathmandu - Lhasa) will be closed until next year for sure. There is a little chance the Gilong Border (goes right to Kailash region in Tibet) opens next year but they were promising to us that the border should open this year in April but it doesnt. Actually the border is open, only foreigners aren't allowed to pass. As in the whole March Tibet stays closed for foreigners I wouldn't that optimistic that something happens in April.

For Pakistan. Seems you're taking the south route through Pakistan when you're coming from Iran. Do you think this region is fine for overlanders? Anyways would be nice to share your experiences.

For the China-Transit: I am able to take the guide in my car. We did it here the whole time. Right now we're a group of six overlanders :) In case you do the KKH, how much time do you think to spend in Pakistan? How do you plan to obtain the visa?

I am by the way traveling with a Mitsubishi Pajero. Good car. No problems at all :)

Hey Mathias,

We have met several overlanders that recently went through Pakistan. Did not hear any bad things. The police escort seems to be annoying, but otherwise they were free to move and save. We want to spend the full 30 days in the country and even take the KKH as far as possible (in case the friendship bridge opens and we do not come back). So in April, we would basically try to get from Nepal to the Pakistan China border as fast as possible.

We'll try to obtain the Pakistan visa in India and Nepal, otherwise we'll send our passports back to Germany to get the visa.

Cheers

Hi Heiner and Anna,

how are you? Are you now in Pakistan? I successfully crossed China with my group of 6 overlanders :) Now I am in Bangkok and will head towards Myanmar on Wednesday.

Two Germans contacted me as well for crossing Pakistan/China. So if Nepal border remains closed we would be 3 cars already :)

When would be your latest date to decide which route you gonna take?

Cheers, Mathias

Hey Matthias,

we entered Pakistan November 28th. It's a fun place and people are just great. But we're having our problems with escorts and telecommunications companies :) So travel is slow and internet scarce..

We'll try to be in Nepal early March, then we can decide. But maybe there is some reliable information on the Nepal China border before that...

Cheers
Anna & Heiner

Ok, inshallah we will get our Pakistani visa extended to 6 months double re-entry. So we can come back in April without applying for a new visa. We arrived in the northern areas of Pakistan two days ago and it's really nice up here. Just freezing cold at night

We have little hope that the border in Nepal will open early next year. So we would gladly join your group! ;) Did you receive any quotes yet?

Cheers and Merry Christmas
Anna & Heiner
