Karakoram HW Oct/Nov 2016 (Kyrgystan-China-Pakistan)
Hi everyone :thumbup1:
My boyfriend and I are planning to cross Kyrgystan-China-Pakistan via Karakoram in late Oct or early Nov 2016. I don't know if anyone would be interested in teaming up to share the costs? We are already in touch with a tour operator through China (4 days) but have not made any fixed agreements yet. We are by Volkswagen van. Best regards, Mia |
Would be interested a lot...

I´m a German Biker travelling alone who plans to do the same route at the same time. I´d really be looking forward to be able to join you in order to share the costs (because a motorcycle-driver would otherwise have to pay for an extra vehicle for the obligatory statal watchdog in China, which isn´t cheap). And, last but not least, a little company is always nice on the road... I´ll reliably be starting my trip in mid-August in Germany via Bosporus, Turkey, Aserbaijan, Armenia, Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan, and, after crossing China, will be heading forward to Delhi/India, where I want to deposit my bike for some months to continue my tour via Singapore to Australia in spring 2017. Where will you be coming from/going to? Where are you from? I´d be happy about a soon answer to be able plan more concrete. My email adress is teftrip@gmx.de Apart from sharing the costs, who will care for the organization of the Cina-crossing (you mentioned that you´re already in contact with a tour-operator - did you get any response yet)? Looking forward to hear from you, TEF (Klaus-Stefan Stiefelhagen, Ulm, Germany) |
Hi Mia, Hi TEF,
I am looking at a very similar route, looking for people to ride with, but planning to be on KKH by late August so a bit in front of you. Thought I'd say hi now anyhow, just in case I'm delayed! Best, Len |

Great to hear from you :-) My Belgian boyfriend and I (Danish) are planning to leave from Copenhagen, Denmark, early August and go down Eastern Europe - Turkey - Iran - Turkmenistan (transit visa hopefully possible) - Uzbekistan - Kyrgystan - China (corner) - Pakistan - India and then from there on figure out our further proceedings :-) We would definitely be up for teaming up together through China (and maybe meet up earlier on route for a travel chat). I have been in contact with Kashgar New Land International Travel Service 4Days Pakistan-China-Kyrgyzstan self-driving tour and they have send me a quote on the trip. I will e-mail the company for a new price calculation based on three people (or more if more will join us). In general, I will contact you on your e-mail and we can talk about the details there :-) As for the dates of crossing, we are at the moment awaiting some responses from the Pakistan embassy - we would like to cross mid-November, but since the Pakistan visa can only be issued us here in Copenhagen and it is only valid for entry (unless we can make other agreements with the embassy) for three months, we might need to cross earlier (end-Oct). How does that fit into your schedule? Again, good to hear from you! Mia |

Good to hear from you too :-) Let us know if you change your schedule :-) Mia |

Just a small update. I've now been in contact with the tour operator again and got a new quote including you if you'd join us. It does indeed seem like a pretty good deal to team up ;-) Let me know if you want me to send you the prices/quote. Mia |
Hi, Joe from NZ here. I'm hoping to do this trip around this time and join up with other riders, I've been in contact with some other groups here but am thinking September or later would probably suit me better.
Have you made any progress on dates/number of people interested? thanks Joe |

You'd be very welcome to join us. We are still just my boyfriend and I in our van. TEF who at one point looked to also join us has changed his travel plans. Our plan is to cross China from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan in the end of October or in the beginning of November (15th of Nov would be the latest). At the moment, the specific dates depend on how we can arrange our visa for Pakistan. When would you plan on crossing? Best regards, Mia |
Hello,
how much does it costs to cross China?I will go in September from Turkey to India on a motorbike. Regards Mike |
Hi Mia,
The plan for me is to re-join my motorbike in Germany at the beginning of June and explore my way across to the Chinese border over a period of about 3 months or so. I think late September or possibly October would work best for me....I usually tend to do a fair bit of meandering and often find myself needing more time! I'm thinking that November would probably be a bit too late than I would prefer, would be concerned about early snow and also my onward travel but not fixed on this? I'm about to look into a Pakistani visa also. Also, I may have another person joining me so that would help further with costs. I'd be interested to see your quote, Is the price for a fixed amount of people/vehicles?? thanks Joe |
Hi guys,
I am also planning my way to India from Germany, but with a 4WD. I am going to leave Kyrgyzstan in the last week of September. There are two option: Pakistan and KKH or Nepal via Rasuwaghadi – Goh (Kerung / Kyirong). If anyone is interested in this dates dont hesitate contacting me. I am traveling with 2 friends and I could host the guide. Cheers, Mathias |
Hi everybody,
I am a solo rider planning to leave from Prague in the middle of July and slowly making my way through southern Europe towards Turkey and Iran. Then I am thinking about three possible ways how to get to India (need to be there late Oct). The first one is through China and Pakistan (KKH); second is through South Pakistan straight to India (recently few riders made this route) and the third one is to take ferry from south Iran to Dubai and then fly to Mumbai. I would be great to join any of you for some part of the journey. Cheers, Radim |

It depends a lot whether you will be going on your own or with others (since a significant part of the fee can be split) and whether or not someone has a car that the Chinese guide can have a seat in or not (if only motorbikes you will probably need to pay an additional guide car fee). The latest quote we got was for two people in a van (my boyfriend and I with space for the Chinese guide) + one motorbike. In this case the motorbike driver will pay 1277 USD. Best regards, Mia |

This price would probably go down if more people would join. If you send me your e-mail address I can send you an attachment of the quote. Best regards, Mia |

You'd be welcome to join us if you opt for KKH and our dates would match :-) Mia |
Hi,
going the same route more or less at the same time, would love to team up for the KKH! cheers, Ellie |

I'm a solo rider on a bike, planning to leave mid July and going from the Netherlands to Vietnam. I'll cross Kyrgystan, KKH, Pakistan mid September. Still looking for a group. With how many people are you now? Very interested to join! Thanks, Toon |
Hi All,
I'm crossing Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan the 16th of September together with Joe. It is a 4 days trip. Costs are 2090 USD for one person, 2620 USD for two persons. So the more people will join us the better. Please PM me if this also fits your schedule. You are all welcome to join! Toon |
Hi Mia, I'm a British/Irish girl looking to cross by bike from Kyrg -> Pakistan about the same time. How is your planning going? Have you got space for one more?
Johanna |

Update
Update: As it looks now, we will do the crossing on 5th-8th of November :-) We are still looking for people to join us :-) The guide can ride in our van with us.

New dates
Update: The dates have been changed to 4th of November (Torugart Pass) til 7th of November (Khunjerap Pass)
All travel mates still very welcome! |
Still looking for travel mates
Hi again,
we are still on the lookout for travel mates to share the cost :-) The deposit has been paid to the tour operator. The dates can be altered until 40 days before the crossing at the latest, so let us know if you have other wishes date wise and we might be able to figure something out :-) Brecht & Mia |
Hey Mia,
Definitely keen to cross krygz-china-pak around mid-late October. I'm an Aussie bloke riding my triumph from London to Sydney, will be entering from the stans to krygyzstan. Does that time slot work for you? How much would it cost for me to join (1 bloke, 1 bike)? Dutchie |

You would be most welcome :-) The price would be 1277 USD for you. Less if we can find more people to join us. We plan to cross only in the beginning of November. We could change it until the very end of October. Don't know if that is too late for you? I think there is also another group here on the HUBB who plan to go earlier in October. Mia |
Krygz - Pak
That should work well for me Mia. I have to spend a good few weeks in turkey, if not a month, as I will have to apply for my pak visa via post to Sydney - I haven't heard of anybody getting their visa through the pak embasssy in Turkey unless they are turkish.
I'll be planning to get to Turkey early august and leaving start of september, so late october/early nov works well for me. Let me know the details so I can get the ball rolling |
Cool!
Maybe so far we can just stick with the scheduled dates 4th-7th of November then? Reason why we don't want to go too early is that we want enough time to see and hang around in Central Asia ;-) I get the idea that we might have quite a similar itinerary? We well be travelling in Turkey in August, then September in Iran, and October in the Stans. Maybe if you want, we can try to meet up somewhere earlier on route and discuss? You can e-mail me at miaesper@hotmail.com and I can send you the quote I got from the Chinese tour operator that way if you like. Also you can read more about us and our trip on our blog if you're interested: https://meeptheworld.wordpress.com/ |
New dates and more companions
Hi everyone,
The dates for crossing Torugart-Khunjerap have now been changed to 25th-28th of October. The Khunjerap pass is due to close for winter on 1st of November. Also, as it looks now we will be two cars and one motorbike. More companions are still welcome but last sign up is around 15th of September. Mia |
Hi Mia,
We are a Swiss couple with a truck looking for this passage at the same time. We are currently in Iran, heading for the Stans next week, if the Turkmen agree... The dates in November would have fit perfectly, but we should be able to make it for your current fixture too. So, please send us a PM if you think we can join in. BTW, I thought the Khunjerap closes 1st of December? Thomas |
Most welcome :-)
Hi Thomas,
You would be most welcome :-) The Khunjerap pass normally closes by 1st of dec but this year (for some unexplained reason) it closes by the 1st of nov. We are crossing at the latest possible dates (something with weekend etc.) It would be easiest for everyone, if you contact and arrange directly with the tour operator himself (named Ablimit) at newlandtravel@hotmail.com. Just write that you want to join us. I will write him that you might contact him. Furthermore, please send me a personal e-mail at miaesper@hotmail.com and I'll add you to the gruop e-mails with the other travellers. Happy travels! We are still in Turkey but leaving for Iran in a couple of days :-) Mia |
