Karakorum Highway, Pakistan -> China -> Tajikistan Apr/May sharing guide costs
 

Hey there,

I'm just trying to gauge interest in doing the KKH from south to north sometime in Apr/May 2011. It looks as if there is plenty of interest in doing it from north to south and cost appears the only major drawback.

I'm in the process of investigating what is required - would be great to see if there are any others out there with the same idea.

And as we say in Australia, no 'gunnahs'.. only doers please.

Aprils and Mays can be cold in the upper parts of KKH. Beautiful valleys near the KKH like Deosai and Chapursan might be inaccessable this time of year. Main KKH would be open though and the international border also opens in early May.
Doing the KKH without Deosai would be unfair to the traveller.

Hi Drewsome,

We are 2 guys driving from Shanghai to South Africa ob motorbikes and we plan to cross the KKH in early May after they open the border pass at Khunerjab.

We don't have an exact date right now but our trip will start in Shanghai on April 22nd, so we estimate around 2-3 weeks to arrive in Kashgar and from there to Islamabad over the KKH.

If it does make sense with your plans don't hesitate to send me a text/email.

Hey drew.

My friend and myself are currently riding from Singapore to London on some old Royal Enfield's.

We're currently in Malaysia, tomorrow we begin Thailand and then freight to Nepal.

How solid is your time frame?

We are going to do the Pak - Tajikistan route, but not till the very end of July beginning of august because we have to meet some friends and family in India.

also your other problem with us is that we can't go faster than 70 - 80 klm
