Kenya to Ethiopia via Lake Turkana
We're looking for company to go north up Lake Turkana, Kenya then cross into Ethiopia at Omorate, mid August this year.
We're probably continuing up to Alexandria, Egypt. Join us for some or all of the time, or at least for the more remote parts of the trip. If we do the eastern route up the lake, you'll need 4x4 or enjoy off road biking. The western route is do-able in 2WD. We're happy and friendly German and English couple in a Toyota landcruiser. Been on the road since 2013. Check us out at www.wanderwheels.wordpress.com Send us a message or email bruceontour2013@gmail.com |
Some Like It HOT
Hello there,
As traveled as you are, I'm certain you have researched both routes up along side Lake Turkana. A year and a half ago a friend and I rode our bikes up the east side to Omorate as you may do. I was on a fully loaded (of course) KLR and my buddy was on his DR. It was a challenging ride due to the rocks and loose sand. But the never ending relentless heat was the killer for me. No real shade, no relief. If it weren't for the killer heat, it would have been a very enjoyable off road ride. Does the Land Cruiser have AC? lol We found a money changer and fuel in Omarate. The local scene on the river watching folks fill their water buckets right next to others bathing in soap got my attention. Enjoy! |
Brilliant, thanks for the info!
Yes we have air con and honestly really feel for you guys in such circumstances!! If we do the east side alone, are there plenty of locals around, or at least at distances less than 30km away if you breakdown and are alone? Or how long do you reckon you would have to wait until someone came by and could give you a lift somewhere? Thanks a lot!! PS, funny to be called well-travelled, because we don't feel it at all! Still so much to see and do, thankfully! |
