Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey

Hey,

I'm in Kyrgyzstan right now waiting for my visas. Next week will head off to Naryn, Tashrabat, hopefully Song Kul, across to Aslanbob, Osh, and then on 23 May cross over into Tajikistan - Pamir Highway. Will stay 1 month Tajikistan, almost 1 month Uzbekistan, about 10 days Kazakhstan, 2 weeks Azerbaijan, 3-4 weeks Georgia, then a dash across Turkey to trek the Lycian way for a month.

Riding a WR250R, usually 200-300km for a riding-day, mixture of camping, homestay, cheap hotels.

Haha, I broke my guitar in China so looking for someone to keep me company!

cheers,
Karl (regie)

I"ll be there soon

Hey mate,
how are you?

Im currently in Nepal, I was planning on purchasing a Royal Enfield here and then ride it back home to Germany in the following 8 months.
Unfortunately the earthquake hit us pretty hard and there is no way I can go through with my former travel plans.

So Im reconsidering and looking for alternative routes.

From what I found so far my best shot would be heading to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, crossing the caspian sea by ferry into Azerbaijan ( transit within 72 hours) and then cross borders at Nakhichevan/Dilucu.

Now one of my biggest concerns is getting visas on the road.
Kyrgyzstan shouldn't be a problem, do you know anything about Azerbaijan?
or do you have any suggestions on alternative routes?
Uzbekistan etc?

Im trying to make it as easy as possible, so I don't have too many border crossings.

I thought about purchasing a Ural with sidecar in Bishkek or Almaty (btw do you know if its possible at the moment to cross borders to kazakhstan in Almaty?) - Do you have any information about availability and current prices for Urals in Kyrgyzstan at the moment?

All the best for your trip, maybe we"ll meet somewhere on the way..
Ride safe,
Till

hey mate,

I'm behind you. In Delhi now getting visas and stuff sorted.

Can you keep us updated if possible with how you go on the ferry crossing to Azerbaijan? I'm hoping to go that way and have heard it is fairly inconsistent.

Cheers
Kurt

I'm currently in Mongolia and I plan on heading out on my bike in early August. I want to dip down into central Asia and then find my way into Europe through Turkey. I'll probably be in Tajikistan/Kyrgyzstan around early September and then head west, does that roughly match any of your plans?

hey grahem,

sounds like i will be ahead of you - roughly may takik, june uzbek, july/aug kaz, azerbaijan, georgia, sept turkey. Really loved mongolia, it was magical. stayed 2 months and now tryin to talk a friend into going there with me in the future to buy a couple horses and go bush (oz speak)

hey kurt, will do my best. i know there is no schedule which is why i chose to get tourist visas in kaz and azerbaijan....just in case i have to wait.

hi till, just finished getting all the visas and permits i need for tajik to turkey. took 1 month in kyrgyzstan - all pretty straight forward, although a little costly. haha, dont try getting a visa for china here...at the moment its a nightmare!

um...alternative routes - possibly around caspian sea to the north, then south thru caucuses, or turkmenistan to iran (need carnet)

sounds like you are australian, looks like you are german (name, like me), but sorry if i'm mistaken. i think germans can enter kaz for free with 15 days (but dont quote me). But if you need a visa, its no problem in bishkek - 5 days

havnt seen any urals but there is a guy in osh selling a klr650 - prob your best bet!

Yea sounds like you'll be a bit ahead of me Regie, let me know if your plans are delayed and maybe we could meet up.

last 2 weeks from osh to khorog, via pamir and wakhan. Amazing!

heading to shokhdara valley for couple days then back to khorog.

grahamtheman 13 Jun 2015 04:32

2 weeks from osh to khorog sounds amazing. Hopefully I'll be doing the same in about 2 months. Were you able to get a Tajikistan visa at the border or did you have to get it in advance in Kyrgyzstan? Also, did you have to get any special permits for the areas where you were driving?
