Kyrgyzstan to Nepal in September 2016
Hi guys,
it's the first time in this forum, so I hope I am right here with my request. I am going to traveling this year all the way from Berlin to India with my car. One stage will be Kygyzstan (Tourgart-Pass) to Nepal going over the G219 Highway, passing the Kailash and Lhasa before heading to Nepal. All together around 20 days. I am going to travel together with a friend. For China it is necessary to hire a tour operator organizing the trip. The prices are ridiculous, but kind of okay if like three cars are in the group. So my question: How is up for traveling this part with its own car? Entering date should be the 26th of September. I am already in contact with some tour operators! Thanks a lot guys! Cheers from Berlin |
Check situation regarding Tibet-Nepal border: it closed after earthquake and reports about reopening didn't looked good last time I checked
|
Well thats on problem indeed. The boarder Zamdu - Kodari is still closed. But one Chinese tour operator told me, that officials will announce in March if another boarder point is going to open.
Alternatives: China - Laos or China - Pakistan |
Hi, I have the information, that the border to Nepal is closed until 2019.
Now I've changed my route and will ride the KKH to Pakistan, take a look to http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...n-august-84583. Currently we are three travelers with motorcycles. Mybe it fits for you too? |
Hi Josef,
yeah I am afraid the border is still closed. I spend the whole day getting information about the KKH. And it sounds not that bad for me! I am now really thinking to use this part. Timing: Unfortunately I am kind of fixed with the date. To take friends and family with me I divided the tour into stages. So the earliest date I can cross the border to China would be the 26th of September. 5-7 Days in China are totally okay for me! Let me know if its maybe fitting for you. I have space for the guide in my car too. Cheers from Berlin, Mathias |

Hi Mathias !
We are a french couple with a 4x4 motorhome and we also would like to cross from Kirghizistan to Nepal ( or Laos ) and would like to share the cost of self driving Have you found other traverllers ? Where are you with your project ? Grüsse |
Hi! Well there are still 3 options which I follow:
For each route I have one person who might join. If the Nepal border is still gonna be closed I might have two for the Pakistan route. What is your travel plan? Cheers from Berlin, Mathias |
Hi Mathias,
I haven't thought yet about Kirgizistan China Pakistan... My plan was to cross from Kirgizistan to Nepal ( if it's possible ) or to Laos in october 2016 Cheers ! |
Hi, I am planning with the route to Nepal and Pakistan. I am not going to follow the Laos route and Pakistan is till now my favorite. When dou want to make a decission? There will be eventually a decission about Nepal border end of March... Do you contacted any tour operators?

Hey guys!
We are two bikers from London and we are planning to go the same route as you around mid-October 2016. We are interested in both routes to either Nepal (preferred) or Pakistan. I have emailed seven or eight agencies to give us a quote, we'll see what they say (they will know about the border crossings, I would think). We would gladly be a part of a larger group to save some money and meet new people on the road, but unfortunately we won't be able to get there before October (we are planning to leave London in mid-August). Hi Mathias !
What is the route through Pakistan ? How do you get the Visa for Pakistan ? I only received one quote to Nepal - from Voyage au Tibet, it's the same than Tibet Reisen - lots of french people travel with this tour operator Navo Tour has not answered yet. Cheers, Isabelle |
Kyrgystan-China-Pakistan (Karakoram) Oct/Nov 2016
Hi everyone bier
My boyfriend and I are planning to cross Kyrgystan-China-Pakistan via Karakoram in late Oct or early Nov 2016. I don't know if you'd be interested in teaming up to share the costs? We are already in touch with a tour operator through China (4 days) but have not made any fixed agreements yet. We are by Volkswagen van. Best regards, Mia |

Yes we are aware that the weather could be problematic. However, we have been writing with the Chinese tour operator Kashgar New Land International and they have informed us that the pass closes officially 1st of Dec but advices us to cross 15th of Nov at the latest before the heavy snowfall. Do you have experience with the pass closing earlier than that? We are happy to hear from anyone who have experience with driving the Karakoram at this late point of the year :-) |

Hi Mathias, I thought it was still not possible to get a visa for Pakistan... but we won't follow this option because we wanted to cross Tibet. Cheers, Isabelle |
Same route, same means of transport...

Hi there! I´m a biker from Germany planning to start my tour to Asia in mid-August as well. I want to travel via Turkey, Armenia and Aserbaidjan to Iran and then continue over Turkmenistan and Usbekistan to Kirgistan, from where we could join heading to Nepal in order to lower costs. (In fact, if you plan a similar route we could also join earlier, because Turkmenistan has comparable travelling restrictions as China - the more you are, the cheaper it gets to pay the unwanted company...) Anyway, I´m sure I could make it to Kirgistan until mid-October to meet you there, as I know most of the route (till Mashad/Iran) already. Please send me a message if you´re interested. Stefan from Ulm, Germany |
Hi there. My name is Rob. I am a biker from Holland and planning a trip to Australia this summer. Leaving in august and planning for the first part of the trip the same route as Stefan from Germany. I am very interested in your plans.
Perhaps in one way or the other we can do a part of the route together. Let me know if you are interseted also. Met vriendelijke groet |
Hi guys,
I've got the information, that the border to Nepal will be open starting from May 2016. Its the border point Rasuwaghadi – Goh (Kerung / Kyirong): https://goo.gl/maps/uPQ7jWefBnD2 I am checking this alternative and asking tour operators about the price. Start would be the last week of Septmeber. I am with a 4WD and two friends, so we can host the guide. Cheers, Mathias |

Hello,
We are planning to do the same trip from Kyrgyzstan to Nepal via G219 later this year, flexible on the dates atm. We have a Jeep Cherokee which is already in Bishkek from the previous trip. Mathias, I sent you a pm - Please let us know. Lhasa is optional for us, as we'd prefer the shortest route in to Nepal. If anyone else is planning this journey let us know. Appreciate if people can share any quotes from the travel agencies too. cheers Che PS: We = My wife and I, and our 2yr old. |

Border opening in June
Hi
I saw on a website last night that a local paper was reporting that the China Nepal border will reopen in June this year. We would like to drive from Kyrghistan via China to Nepal, leaving the UK in June. It would be great to join with others to share the costs of a guide. We are reasonably flexible on times, just want to get to India for the winter. If anyone is interested in sharing costs please get in touch. We are a mature couple in a Toyota camper. Thanks Suede |

We would be interested in joining you. How long do you plan to take from Kyrgyzstan to Nepal? We are a couple in a Toyota camper van and your dates would fit well for us. I saw on a web site last night that a local paper is reporting the Nepal China border will re-open in June. We have three seats so could host a guide. What have you been quoted for the crossing. I haven't tried to get a quote yet for this route. My email is sue@nworth.co.uk if you want to message me. Thanks Suede |

Hi all!
We are Jeroen & Nicolette from Holland and we are also interested in joining. We drive a Land Cruiser campervan and need to decide if we want to take the KKH or the route into Nepal. Can you keep us up to date on your plans? We'd love to visit Kashgar on a Sunday by the way, the market should be pretty impressive. You can reach us at jeroen.willemse@gmail.com. Thanks! Best regards, Jeroen |
