Latin America - Sharing Information

Iain's posts inspired me to do my own trip but due to a change of plans I am going argentina 2 alaska in order to follow the weather.

I am planning to fly into Ecuador in Oct, down to TDF along the west coast for the HU meetup and the tip on 21 Dec then work my way up the east coast (carnival in Rio in Feb) to hit Alaska 21 June. There are more details on my website www.argentina2alaska.co.uk
(btw as I was originally going to go the other way around if anyone wants to buy www.alaska2argentina.co.uk @ cost please contact me).

There are a few others that I have met from London who will be in the same area about that time and we were talking about sharing information eg shipping costs, must see places etc.

In order to do so I set up a yahoo group if you would like to join the details are:-
homepage http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bikersinsouthamerica/
subscribe bikersinsouthamerica-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
post message bikersinsouthamerica@yahoogroups.com

See you in Latin America.
Annette

Annette,

The best place to share that information is right here on the HUBB - another place just means that info that is already here on the HUBB is hashed over again, and those who join the yahoo group have two places to search or ask. Doesn't make sense. Keep it all in one place.

Also note that the Argentina HU meeting is on the East coast...

See you at the UK Meeting! Think about calling a breakout session on SA.

Hi Grant,

Thanks for your response. I had mainly thought that a mailing list would make it easier to get in touch with the people, who have posted that they will be in SA end of this year or early next year, as there are several posts on the subject. It seemed that the community mailing lists were mainly specific to the region that you lived in.

Maybe it would be easier if anyone who is going to be in that region post once against this post with their rough itinerary so that there is the possibility of meeting up? Or is doing that also a faux pas?

I will definitely be feeding my findings back into the HU as it has been an invaluable resource for planning an overland trip. In fact without it I don’t know if I would have the information and hence the security in knowledge to feel comfortable about my upcoming trip as a newbie. So please accept my sincere thanks to you and your wife for setting it up – it is a brilliant site – you both are an inspiration!

Yes, they are, but we could do one as you suggest if there is interest.

Not a problem at all - it's common to have a thread used by a group of people with a similar interest. Every year there is a long thread by the South American bound folks.

You're welcome! It's great to see people going out and doing it, we love it! When we went there was nothing, no information at all except a little Lonely Planet, and no mc information, especially in North America. That's why we try to keep all the info available - it makes it so much easier!

Note: the new version of the HUBB, coming in a few weeks! will allow you to subscribe to a thread, so anyone can keep track and get a notice when there is a new post, so it's just as easy as a mailing list.
