London to Black Sea and Back - July/Aug 2019

1 Attachment(s)
I'm a Primary school teacher and planning to spend the 2019 summer holidays (late July till end of August) motorbiking from UK to the Black Sea and back on my Versys 650.

The route (hopefully attached) is semi flexible but the way out mainly follows the Danube river from South Western Germany through Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Romania (and maybe Istanbul). It detours a bit as there are places of interest I'd like to see on the way and roads I'd like to ride that are off the 'Danubian path' - particularly at the start where I'd like to duck down through Switzerland and on to Venice then back up to the river via Vienna and Salzburg.

Coming back is more southerly through Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania and then either up the Adriatic coast through Montenegro and Croatia or crossing over to Italy and doing Pompeii, Rome, Florence, Milan. Then Monaco, Marseille and home via Paris.

It's around 8,000km and planning on taking 30-40 days so not excessive riding (200-300km most days with stops for sightseeing). Probably mainly staying in cheap motels, homestays, AirBnB or caravan sites (I'm not a camper).

I'm more of a traveller than a biker (been riding 5 years but never done anything like this before). I'm pretty sedate and play by all the traffic rules and speed limits (but if you wanted to blat on ahead and wait for me to catch up that's fine - I'm happy just meeting up in the evenings and having some company around the breakfast table)! I'm not mechanically minded and although the bike will be well serviced before I leave I'm no good if anything breaks so if you're mechanically adept you'll be my best friend for life! Otherwise I'll be relying on local garages and European Breakdown Cover!)

Apart from all that I'm laid back and happy to go with the flow, English but also have Kiwi citizenship, 40 and love movies, 80's-90's music and learning stuff.

If you're interested in coming on all or part of the route with me let me know please - I'd really rather have some company as I'm apprehensive about doing it on my own!

Cheers

Graham

I am traveling from the US. My route includes Glasgow to Turkey.

I have an apartment in Istanbul Jul 15-21 with extra space, then traveling around Turkey for the week after that.

Let me know if you want to ride together.

Hi!
I live in Wilts.
I have a bit of business in Sofia Bg, and really like to take a swim in the Black Sea as well, been awhile.
I am thinking very hard about going to Bg on my bike.

I have 80K+ MC miles 2007-2017 in 30+ countries in Europe, Africa, Dubai and USA, so I mostly know the ropes. Mostly solo riding.
Still alive and well, so no hauling a** or hooliganism, hehe.
I just get there and have fun in the process.
Not looking to do more than ca 400 km a day, either.

But after couple of years of "softing" I feel a bit intimidated by the prospect.

I like "roughing it" a bit and usually stray off the beaten track. Wild camping rather than 5-star. Not opposed to motels, but more fond of camping.
UK military sleeping bag's your best friend!

Wild camping is not really allowed in most of Europe, but bivouac by the bike is usually fine. Have done it few times in years past.
Coffee in the morning with my portable ethanol burner is a must. jeiger
Some time end of July to September would be nice.

My father built quite a few (now scenic) roads around Bg in the 50's, he was a motorcyclist and camper as well.
All my life I've dreamed to ride "his" roads...

Let's touch bases.
What's your ride?

Maybe you can make it hard for me to chicken out :smiliex:
BTW, I speak fluent Bulgarian, English, Swedish/Norwegian and a bit of German.
Cheers!

Turkey August

Hi

I am in the process of planning my trip to Singapore via Turkey and would like to meet up with others if possible on the way. I may be travelling through Europe with a friend. The route would be through Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and into Turkey.

I plan to mix up overnight accommodation..a bit of camping, a few cheap places etc. and nearly always take the smaller roads.

I would like to do a few walks here and there when the scenery becomes breathtaking. I'm really not that bothered about cities but would like to go to Prague (I don't really know why but heard the beer was cheap).

Anyone interested in meeting up on route please contact me.

Sarah
