London to Cape Town 2019 (4x4)
Hi all,
I’ve got a well prepared Defender 130 and have done a few month long trips to Morocco and around Europe. Later this year I’d like to quit my job and head off for a year or so, I was thinking about going to Cape Town and back. I’ll be on my own (1 person, 1 vehicle) and a bit concerned about security and border crossings on my own. Is anyone looking to make the trip anytime late 2018/2019? Any advice appreciated! Cheers. |
Hello,
I could have written nearly the same. Just replace "well prepared Defender 130" by "stock but fresh S2a 109 (2.5D n/a, so cruising speed 80-90km/h)". I´ll carry kitesurf equipment and will stop at windy wave spots along the west coast between Essaouira and Dakar (this part will be ruled by windforecast, stop per spot max 3-5 days). Then I´ll sneak through the risky parts of West & Central Africa or will possibly skip this part by shipping, depends on situation and mood. But I´m confident, to go on. The coasts of Namibia and South Africa want me to kitesurf again, so here again a coastal trip with detours inlands, where worth it. From Cape Town to Mozambique up to Kenia. (then possibly shipping towards Asia or shipping from South Africa towards South America or returning via Egypt to Europe...who knows what will be...) As I´m following the windforecast for some parts of the trip, I´d roughly like to be in: Spain, Morrocco > Okt/Nov ´18 Namibia, South Africa > until Feb, March ´19 Mozambique > April, May ´19 I found this thread (click) very interesting and would also like to try it without carnet or visa in advance.
