Hey Bossies
I was coming online to ask the same question! funny how things go. Yes I have got my bike (TT600RE) it was on HUBB a while ago I missed it, then snapped it up when came back on a couple weeks ago, Flew to London picked up bike and rode it back to Guernsey (used boat for wet part!) I have been teaching myself off roading skills the last couple weekends on the beaches and headlands. I plan to leave the same time as you-mid sept and Sudan same time Im also going through eastern Europe then Syria Jordan etc. I was thinking christmas in Eithopia might be intersting. Im traveling solo so how do you feel about traveling northen Sudan together? Have you heared from Werner? He seems to be incontact with a few People. Regards George |
Good luck to everyone!!
Hello gays,
I plan the same trip for the last months my self. Unfortunatelly I will leave a litlle earlier than you. I plan on leaving after the meeting in Ripley June 07. This is a small idea on what I want to do. Greece,Italy,France,England,Germany,Belgium,Czech Republic,Hungary,Serbia,Bulgaria,Turkey,Syria,Jord an,Egypt,Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and finally South Africa. I know it sounds looong for a bigginer in African soil but I wouldn't do it if it was easy. I will try to keep you posted about the road condition in this countries and any other information you think it would be helpful. Have a good time and drive safe.:thumbup1: |
HI
I will be riding from cape town to Cairo starting from 1st july or so. We will have our bikes shipped to Cape Town by air and we plan to finish up in Israel. We plan to do it in 35 days ... hows that for hardship. If anyone will be along the Eastern route during that time let us know |

July - December Africa trip
Hi,
I am free July December. My 1st choice route is London-Paris-Dakar, cross through Chad or CAR into Sudan and then continue the standard east route to Cape Town. Want to climb Kili or Mount Kenya on the way. My 1st choice bike is old school Tenere if I can get one in time, otherwise a Transalp'99 with XRV tank or a KLE500 with lots of jerry cans. ;) The more the merier, so lets team up. my email: wicjo (att) irc (doot) pl Regards, Witek |
hi witek
sudan is crazy right now. best do it in convoy and up north. south is a no go zone apparently. the grapevine might be wrong, but be sure afore you go there. good luck, robin |
Hey wicjo
I agree that any route in the world is doable short of being stopped from entering at a border but even then a "little help" can make mountains move. But then different people have different risk thresholds. Our plan to head down Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and North Kenya etc is at the limit of our risk threshold. Even contemplating crossing Chad and CAR and straight into Darfur is WAY WAY above our comfort zone. But yes I'm sure it is doable. All the best to you and it will be good to catch up on the other side for a beer in Addis or Nairobi if our timings work out. |
had a taste of biking in Africa, need more
I was planning to ride from Capetown to Uganda starting September/07 but have not yet ruled out the north to south journey either. Crossing Congo and CAR and Sudan sounds somewhat iffy. I was planning a hybrid south to north eastern-side journey from CT, Madagascar, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda...and if still gung ho hopping over Congo and all by Air Kenya into Cameroon through west Africa to Europe...
I rode through southern Africa last fall and want to do an extended trip in Africa. |
Different route?
Hey Chaps,
I have read all your threads and it seems you are all a little worried about Sudan right now? What about go from Europe through Turkey into Iran, down to UAE then ride through Oman, Yeman across to the mainland at Djibouti then Ethiopia Kenya etc? I am in Oman with a R1200GS and will most probably ride it down there around about the same time. Let me know if anyone is interested in this option? Cheers Ivan |
sudan
ciao ivan
yeah sudan is hairy right now. but i really wanna to do as much of africa as i can. there is talk of everyone joining together for that crossing. which should be safer that way. it would be wonderful to hook up in ethiopia or kenya for a beer or a bit of travelling, keep in touch. when you planning on being there exactly? robin. |
george, werner
just bought a yamaha tt600 for the trip.
found a really good deal. 2003 model with 3k on the dial. also a plus having some guys with the same bikes doing the same route.... good for spares etc... george, your land line, is it working now? wanna give you a call sometime to say yebo. ciao for now, robin |
