London to Cape Town, Sept/Oct 2012
Hi guys,
myself and a fellow biker I met at the Colombian border last year are planning to ride London to CT later this year. I'm posting here, as, I'm on a KTM 640 Adventure R, and he's on a Harley Davidson Road King. Yup. He's not afraid of taking it off road either, he road it from California to Ushuaia. But, I don't think it's going to be brilliant for some of the pistes I'd like to have a look at. And equally, he might be fancying longer days in the saddle than me from time to time... So, ideally, it'd be good to get two others, perhaps one on a single who'd fancy a bit of desert etc, and someone on something more road biaised. Myself and Rob are both early/mid 30s, pretty easy going and would do the odd night camping, but hopefully find cheap accom en route. I'll probably chuck my bike in a plane to get it home, but if there's three bikes going back to the UK, maybe look into shipping. Our route hasn't been planned yet, so we're open to suggestions... I'm based in London, so meeting for a few drinks beforehand would be an idea at some point. Rob is based in California unfortunately. You'd prob be welcome to fly over to meet him if you wished! Hello Rick,
My departure is set for august15 with gsa and going into Egypt and down...the classic route. My friend from Amsterdam (also gsa) is willing to join, to be confirmed soon. I have done lots of prep. and in final stage of organising... Am happy you are travelling at the same timeframe, we could surely talk/drive portions together! :scooter: Geert geertvdgucht@yahoo.com |
off thread, but..
Hi, Slightly off thread, but curious. I was looking at the "classic" route, but the carnet which included Egypt was very expensive. I think Egypt wanted a bond 8 times the value of the bike! How did you get on?

Hi,
Harley, KTM or Honda doesnt really matter its just a question on how much money you want to spend: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...n-harley-63808 Greetings, Tobi Riding the rough west coast through Africa part 3 |
Hi there, I'm leaving on 20th August to do London to CapeTown too, been coming up against a few issues on the routes front given trouble in Mali/impossibility of crossing Libya so now thinking of heading across Europe, getting a Roro boat across to Egypt and then down. but nothing set in stone. I'll be riding a Suzuki DRZ400, and setting off solo, but would be great to do sections with others so perhaps riding sections together if that works would be fab. Do you have any more of a route planned out yet? Thanks, Claire

Hey..
I'm leaving Cape Town and heading up the East for London in a week or so. May cross paths up around Kenya or somewhere like that?! Be good to hook up for beers and that.. Im a Londoner on an '01 BMW 650 Dakar, i'll keep a look out for you's.. Can't imagine i'd not notice if a dusty harley rolled past me! Or a DRZ for that matter, and i'm bound to be reeking of jealousy if i see you: i'm leaving my DRZ at home to do the trip on the Dakar as its simply more practical.. but i get the feeling the DRZ would be much more fun, good on you TigerTiger! |
The drz is very trusty but think you'll have a comfier time on your Dakar! Yes sure a beer or two in Kenya or somewhere sounds awesome, best of luck on your trip!

London to Cape Town East Route LC80
Hi, I'm hoping to drive LC80 down from London to Cape Town via the East, but am struggling to find info on the recently re-opened RoRo from Mersin to Port Said - anyone got any info on this?
Hoping to leave London in October 2012, drive to Italy, probably ferry across Greece to Turkey and then RoRo to Egypt. Looking for travel partners as would like to fill seats! |
