London- Capetown Nov 2010
I am in the process of putting together London - Capetown and looking at leaving end of October early November and trying to be in Capetown by mid February, is anyone esle doing this route at the same time?
The route i was looking at is (things might change politically) Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina, Benin,Nigeria, Camaroon, Gabon, Congo, DCR, Angola, Namibia, RSA. I am using a landrover 110 |

so vette are you on board? have you got the time? I have a friend in Namibia so my plans have chnaged slightly to leave me car with him for the year and go back the following Nov 2011 and then drive back to the UK via the east route that way no need for shipping back and gives me the chnace to do 2 major trips in 1.5 years. Get time off and join me.
I have UN peace keeping military friends in the Congo who might be able to help with any problems as well as friends in Nigeria so there are all places i am looking at stopping for a few days. Ben |

It would give me the greatest of pleasure to join you. I shall know better closer at the end of this contract in June / July. I am predominantly over in the far East, China, Jakarta, Korea and Singapore. I know there is work in China, which I would jump at, whole heartedly. I have put this trip off a few times, but I can not keep putting it off, so as soon as I get a lull in the work, I will jump in with both feet. The route you are suggesting is the perfect route, as far as i have always seen. I don't particularly want to do any real serious off roading, after all, I want to get there in one piece. If I get all the way to CPT without even a puncture, then that's the best I could ever hope for. Don't get me wrong, this LC does some serious off road driving, in so much that she gets a real pounding, but on a long run down to CPT, then i think 'slow and steady' come to mind. 'vette |
Uk to Capetown
Hi, am also looking at heading north to south leaving around mid October 2010. I'll be biking it on an africa twin. Still mulling over the route but pretty sure will be starting through morocco. Apart from that pretty flexible,

Well it looks like I could very well be on the same time schedule as you. :D I have no visas planned yet, nor any inoculations. Like I said earlier, the route Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina, Benin,Nigeria, Camaroon, Gabon, Congo, DCR, Angola, Namibia, RSA. is just what I would be looking for. How far along he visa path are you ? Is your LR ready ? My LC is just about ready, and we are planning a short trip to Morocco, may be in the next 2 - 3 weeks, as a 'taster' Travel down through Europe, pulling a caravan, then probably unhitch it and store it some where close to Algeciras, for a week or two, while we ferry over to Morocco, and go drive around Morocco, and High Atlas. Just to see how things perform. 'vette |

I have no visas either but am led to believe that most can be obtained in Rabat so going with that plan. My dates have changed slightly to now leave end of November and trying to do trip in 3 months or just over. I am not going all the way as i plan to leave vehicle in Namibia with a friend who lives there and then go back to work for 6 months before flying back to continue up the east coast :) How long do you have on the road, do you already have a route/ places you want to visit on the way? I am working on this at present and will soon have it after which I can mail it to you. Maybe we can join up and go together or at least part of the way. I have done the Morrocan bit back in Feb 2008 and most of it is easy, hard dry soil or super soft sand to stay well clear off. Great country and friendly people if you get a chance to go south go to Taroudant which is the new Marrakech as far as I am concerned. Speak soon |

Well I got some difficult news regarding a Morocco visa for my partner. As she is Chinese, Morocco will only issue her a visa in Beijing. So that's out of the question for now. 'vette |
thats bad news so what other options do you have? is that going to be the general problem throughout africa?

May consider go Turkey, Syria, Jordan. the ferry from Venice to Alex, is way expensive me thinks. Unless I find some thing from Pireas to Alex. Currently Pireas to Iraklion is sever very regular. i don't know what good it would be though to get to Alex. Or maybe Either Italy or Greece to Libya? I am thinking of a trial trip, I am tempted to just wing it at the border, and turn up and maybe just look for a week or two in Moroc. Friendly imigration man, some USD maybe? If we (she) get turned away at the border, then we just get ferry back to Algeciras. 'vette |
