I rode to Germany about three years ago with someone on a diesel. 10hp engine. I was surprised how nimble it was up to about 45-50. What spoiled it was he was using the old 4 speed box which has a big step between 3rd and 4th exactly what you dont need for that engine. Once over 55mph it would poodle along quite happily at 55-60 depending on the incline :)
Riding alongside I got 57mpg from my BMW which impressed me, until I realised he was getting three times that.
I got the Electra x because those are the last bikes that can convert to RH shift easily. It had been a problem for me on the BMW for all of the five years I had it. Oddly the Enfield was fine for me even when LH shift whilst I waited for the conversion kit to arrive, so much so I would not have bothered fitting it had it not been ordered. I now realise the BMW was just not the bike for me and the gearchange was just a symptom of it. It was too tall, too heavy and too unergonomic.
So maybe I could have had a UCE bike, but if I ever go to LH shift I have to say I like the looks of the MG Breva 750 or V7
