Looking for a partner. Europe-Tadjikistan departing May 2025

Hi.
I plan to go to Tadjikistan in May 2025 via Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan etc... It would be great to have a travel buddy during this 2 or 3 month trip or for just part of the trip.
I'm 62 and I will ride a tenere 700.
Let me know if anyone has the same kind of trip in mind.
Cheers

sounds like fun..im looking at various possibilities for that edge of the world

Okay, this is painful checking several times a day for any response. I guess you are busy or sorted, either way a simple response would have been good.
Anyway, good luck with your quest, im making other plans now as good communication and trust are really important to me in any travelling partner.

All the best.

I've started off on that route a couple of times but been put off by the sheer amount of "empty miles" on my own that it takes even to get to Kazakhstan, where I want to start. So for next year, I thought I might cheat a bit, get this itch scratched before I'm too old, get the bike freighted to Almaty and start my journey there.

Provisionally anyway.

Hi Sir Andy.
Sorry, I put an alert on my phone if I had a response on HU but nothing happened. At first I checked every day for a week to see if I had a response but as there was nothing I told myself that my phone would notify me.:(
If you're still interested let me know... I will check the site every day to see if I have an answer.
Cheers

Hi
I’m looking at a similar trip myself next year, I say looking because I have an elderly mother so my plans might change.

I have a friend who wants to go as far as Georgia.

I’m not an advanced off road rider but I have some Moto travel experience and would like to take in some easy TET and ACT tracks. I ride a 1200gs but it has 100K miles on the clock and I’ll, possibly, be looking at a smaller bike - perhaps a T7 but more likely a 450 Himmie (if I can raise the seat height)

I’m a laid back traveller and happy to be on my own so I’m not looking for commitment or plans set in stone or an itinerary etc. A vague plan and if we travel together for a bit then great.

frenchrider 10 Oct 2024 08:50

Hi Flipflop
I'm not an expert off-road rider either. I did a lot of off-roading when I was young with friends in the woods and I wasn't that bad but it was with much lighter bikes. (Honda 125 xls then 500xlr) And without any luggage !!! :mchappy:
2 years ago I traveled to North America. Alberta/British Columbia/Yukon/Alaska/Western USA then Washington, NY and montreal to ship back my bike to France. I did somme trails in Alaska and the US (especially in Moab :thumbup1:) but I was on tarmac most of the time.
If they are easy tracks it suits me perfectly. I'm not looking for difficulty.
Now I have a 700 Tenere because it weighs 25kg less than my Africa Twin and that counts when you are fully loaded.
I've planned some easy trails in Turkey and Georgia but the best is yet to come in Kazakhstan with the Mangistau desert and its fantastic landscapes before arriving in Tadjikistan and Kyrgyzstan where there are so many beautiful things to do...
If my way of traveling speaks to you, let me know. I take my time on the road and I stop from time to time to take photos or to fly my drone...

Cheers

Sounds good.
2022/23 my wife and I rode from Montreal to Patagonia and took in lots of trails at a steady pace.

Let’s keep in touch and see what happens.
Cheers

No worries...I dont find this site that easy to use either and cant seem to get any instructions either here or on the HU Book of Faces...I guess todays riders are just born with web knowledge.....Anyway, looks like you are sorted now so that paid off for you hopefully...enjoy the trip, wherever it is

Nothing definitive yet...we'll see...and yes, my web knowledge too is far from being as good as the younger ones but I'm trying to get by anyway.
That said, if you change plans between now and April-May give me a shout. We never know...

Hello French Rider ;

My route plan, Istanbul/Turkey to Gobi Desert/Mongolia is valid for 2025, probably with start on May or June. (had to cancel hitting 2 times in past 3-4 years, however hopefully no excuse could anymore put me off again since I'II hit age 60 next year)
(Istanbul-Georgia-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan- Pamir Highway -Kyrgyzstan and re-entering Kazakhstan towards Ulan Batur & Gobi Desert) and have no idea yet about how & when of return.

If the timeframe suits to you, we could talk on the opportunity to team up.
Will be riding 1200 GS.

Hi Longwayride.
This could be interesting. I'll send you a private message in a few hours when I get home so we can discuss all this quietly.
Cheers

Hi Tomkat. Have you looked into shipping your bike to Almaty? I'd be interested to know what you found out if that's ok?

I was originally thinking about going to Mongolia but my thoughts changed as perhaps it’s too far for a 5 month trip if I’m taking in some trails.
As far as returning goes it’s possible, fairly easy and cheap to go by train to Moscow - a friend of mine went to St Petersburg and rode home from there.
Cheers
