Looking for riding buddy for summer 08 Europe trip.
Hi, I’m just in the early planning stages of a trip to Europe for 3-4 months leaving around June/July.
Just putting a message out to see if anyone wants to join me for all/some of the trip? I ride a Kawasaki ER-6f (so unfortunately no off roading). I guess I’m a medium paced rider depends on my mood and confidence in the bike, although I’m happy to cruise at 50mph for scenery. I’ve been riding for about a year on and off. I’m a 26-year-old male, so ideally would like to travel with someone of similar age who has a similar cc bike to mine as well. Currently live near Guildford in the south east of England. Countries/regions I’m looking to visit in no particular order include: France- Loire valley, champagne, alps. Spain- Pyrenees, Andalucia. Germany- Black forest, Saxony, Bavaria. Austria- Tyrol(Tirol). Italy- Dolomites, Tuscany. Switzerland- Alps. Holland. Belgium. Time/funds permitting other countries might include Portugal, Denmark, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia. The plan is to do mostly camping to keep costs down with some hostels in city’s and stay at a few friends of the family’s along the way. Going to try to tie the route in with events on such as the Pamplona bull run, La Tomatina in Spain. A pilgrimage to the Nurbergring, maybe an F1 GP and Moto GP/WSB event somewhere and any other interesting/random things. As I have already said planning is still in early stages so no routes/countries are fixed, I’m pretty open to suggestions. If you are interested in coming or just have some tips or suggestions please post a message or e-mail me. Cheers James jamescburt@hotmail.com P.s, as this sounds so much like a dating add I would like to say I have a GSOH!! |
Why not go a little earlier, avoid the main tourist crowd and attend the HU Meeting near Heidelburg in Germany?
That's what I'm doing for the start of my 3-week trip starting in mid/late May. I'm also heading back over for the Dutch TT Festival at Assen which runs from the 25 to the 27 June with the Moto GP on the 28 June. tt-festival Assen ENGLISH The Nurburgring is maybe a half day's ride from there. Check the opening times/dates before you go and stick to the evening sessions. The tourist weekends have a great atmosphere but you'd have to be madder than a box of frogs to venture out on track. Last year, I stayed at the Hotel Sonneck which is probably the cheapest in the area. It's about 5 mins ride to the Nordschliefe entrance but it's a bit lonely in the middle of nowhere so I'll be camping this year. Nürburgring* - *adventure Ben Lovejoy's Nurburgring Nordschleife website :: northloop.co.uk :: we're not playing games :: nurburgring galleries and more :: The Mosel valley also has some great roads on the way down to the Black Forest and Lake Constance. I'm planning on heading that way and over the Alpine road towards Berchtesgaden and Salzburg, then down into Italy. Destination Germany - Scenic Routes - German Alpine Road I can also recommend the hostel in Riva del Garda if you're heading to the Dolomites. Secure parking and right in the centre of town. I plan to stay there a couple of days and ride some of the fantastic mountain passes in this area before heading back up through Switzerland. English Index |
Craig76,
Would like to go a little earlier, but unfortunately have work commitments. Thanks for all the links you posted, will be checking them all out later. |

Hello
Not sure if our paths cross - I am planning a Europe trip in June (going early June, coming back late June), the itinerary being: UK - France - Belgium - Holland - Germany - Denmark - Sweden - Finland - Estonia - Latvia - Lithuania - Poland - ... - UK (or the other way round, not sure yet) I ride Honda CB600F, am 26 yrs old and have had my licence for a year. I'd like to explore the eastern countries (Poland particular) and maybe Germany a bit more, find beautiful roads & hills & nature. Planning to shoot through France, Belgium, part Germany as seen them before. Still in a planning stage :mchappy: |
Hey Blizzard,
Unfortunately probably not going to able to catch you as my plans have been pushed a month later, so leaving early July. Have a great time on your trip. J |
If I'm still around, i'll certainly join either of you!
I've got some good routes and nice camping areas in Germany. :mchappy: |
Italy......
Hi James! My girlfriend and I will be whizzing about in Italy for the first 3 weeks of Sept if you fancy hooking up for a beer! We've absolutely no plans except for our eurotunnel bookings across to France and back.
We've been told that August is not the time to go to Italy as (A) Its way to hot and (B) all of Italy goes on holiday then, so the middle of the country is empty and the coasts are overflowing. This is only what we've been told (By an Italian!) so someone correct me if I'm wrong!!!!!!! We're camping too so should be great. Hopefully see you on the road! Tim. |

Thank you everyone that has posted threads and sent e-mails to me. I have now pushed my starting date back to the beginning of July. At the start of my trip i will be doing France and Spain for the first 3 weeks with a fellow biker i met recently, but after that my plans are still free.

Heading to Italy soon, anyone want to come?
Having a great time on the road at the mo, currently enjoying a comfy bed in Switzerland with friends of the family (not sharing a bed with the family!) Been on the road for a month now, flown by way too fast. First 3 weeks was with a mate which was a laugh but also enjoying flying solo at the mo.
Ill be heading to Italy at the end August for a couple of weeks from Bordeaux if anyone wants to ride a few miles then probably east a bit to Slovenia to slow the stem of Euros from my pocket! My first post on this thread has a bit more about me with my e mail, so just drop a line if you are keen to join me. Cheers James |
