All of us had a first trip once up on a time.

Look in the Europe section, there's a guy about the same age as you doing a trip on his first bike, a 125 Honda I think - he might be inspiring for you.

Hey okay a lil bit about me I'm 19 in Feb recently passed my education etc have wanted to travel since a very young age and well my situation at home isn't great plus this girl i was seeing didn't work out and ahhh just want to get away from it all, well in the next month or so I could maybe get £3000 together but how long could that last me if i use this helpx witch everyone is talking about?

oh yeah I'm also a type one diabetic so I shall have to find a way for getting med's but I know a lot of diabetics travel so shouldn't be a problem

More than enough cash, depending what you want to do; you could do worse than get into the helpx site and find a country and a situation that appeals to you - then just do it as the advertisement says!
For instance, if you go overseas, learn a new language.
That keeps things very simple for your first experience away from home with the minimum of outside complexities, like running a vehicle, and minimum expenditure on your part.
I legged it from home when I was younger than you, while still returning later - leaving the nest for the first time, you just have to flap your wings to see if they work OK!!

But how long is a piece of string? How expensive is the string itself? I like to drink and smoke, but I don't spend any money on anything else. So £3000 could last me four or five years. Other people like to stay in hotels, and have nice things, comfort and good food, and would probably spend that on a two week holiday.


I won't be going away with that much money next time I leave, so I would consider it more than enough, other people wouldn't, but I would rather travel than save to travel.

Help X - what are your skills? What can you offer that people would be willing to give you food and board for? Have a look at the website, see if you can find somewhere you fancy, get in contact with them and then you've got an aim. I've stayed places months, I've stayed places days, it all depends on how well you get on with the hosts, and how much they need from you.

Girl problems have this wonderful habit of fading into the distance and disappearing once you cross a border, the only problem is each border crossed means you are in a new country, with new girls to give you new problemsbier.

As for diabetes, I spent over a year all over Africa with my ex who was diabetic, with no problem. Even in Khartoum I managed to find insulin and safe needles. The whole world has diabetics, but if you wheedle your doctor enough, he'll give you a big stock to go with.

PS And I second the language thing, even the barest smattering of a language makes life so much more fun and much easier - especially when you are working and living with people like on HelpX. But if you don't already speak it - it's a fantastic way to learn!

I have got to be honest but I would not take you anywhere with me at the moment.

What you need to do is grow up a bit. We all have hard times and we have to get on with life.

Running away from troubles do not help because they are still there when you get home. When you come upon troubles when you are travelling ...and there are lots, you need to face them out and not run away. I don`t think you could do that.

Anyone who goes off with you would be begging for problems.

I was actually willing to offer a helping hand, or a set of stablisers for a bit. We all started out once, and if I think back, it would have been so much easier if I'd had someone to show me the ropes.

Take Dave's advice. Flap those wings. When you're full of wine up to the neck, knee deep in a foreign language, up to the hilt of something else in a foreign lady, problems seem so much smaller.

IMO that is not a bike that will sell on here; you know from this whole website that the vast majority of peeps here are riding their own choice of machine that probably does not include a Honda CBF - but you can ride a CBF most places, soooooooooooooooo --

1. Get out there and do it on your own bike, or
2. Travel without the bike, via xhelp or whatever floats your boat.

Everything you read on here is just an opinion, including this post. Some is based on experience, in some cases a lot of experience, but you need to get your own experience.
As I said earlier, I have been there, done that - all the stuff about leaving home without parental permission (not that you need it at age 19 but I was under age).
In my day (God, I hate that expression!) before the internet, I just stuck out my thumb and took to the road with a rucksack on my back - in this day and age I am not recommending that specifically but I am repeating what I said earlier - flap your wings and learn to fly, instead of worrying yourself about if your wings actually work OK.

Simple question: have you ever travelled, abroad for instance - I suspect not.

What are you Motorcycler or a traveler.

I am currently in the same situation as you no point stay where I am now.

So I just want to get out and away.

So i what to travel europe. western european country, where i don't need a travel visa for as a Australian. I don't ride bikes.

I have bought a Camper van in the UK, but now I can't get insurance , MOt and Tax on it as ia m not a uk resident or a eu citizens.

I just wonder how the americans go about this

As for the insurance etc, can you just not get it in your home country (Australia?)and then 'add on' that you'll be driving in Europe? I had a similar problem in South Africa, but I got round it by getting a resident to do all the legal work and then put me on the insurance.
